1981 Olds 98 Regency power trunk

Relative's car that lost power trunk function.

I have 12v at trunk when switch is depressed. Bad solenoid?

Which cars interchange? Any GM 1978-?

Power Trunk problem

If you have 12v at the plug for the soleniod i would say its bad.
have someone hit the button a few times while you tap it with a hammer.

Any of the full size Buick Olds Pontiac and Caddy are the same.
Good Luck,
Rich

The solenoid on my 86 Cutlass started binding up and pinally seized on its own. Rust free, rardly driven, and always indoors. No amount of oil would help it, almost as if the solenoid's inner plastic liner expanded on its own. Very odd.
You can remove it and lube it, but most likely you would need a new one.

You'll need to invest in a new one, or at least new to you...

Mine is from a mid 80's Cutlass. Same solenoid...

Went to the local pic-a-part and found one hanging on an 80's Electra.

My guess is all 1970's-86? GM used this unit?

Mostly 80's... Early 70's were quite different, mid-late 70's I am not sure.
Make sure the plunger moves freely before buying.

Plunger moves and I found another unit as a spare. Total cost- $10.

Downside was 2 hours travel time round trip!
