ignition switch bezel

During re-install of ignition switch in '65 Olds 98, I am having trouble starting the nut onto the switch. Took it off caveman style with small punch and hammer backing off nut. Nut spun on freely when switch out. I assume I am cross-threading it. Been looking for bezel tool, took chance on OER tool for '65 impala but the three prongs don't fit so Impala bezel diameter bigger I suppose. I don't see how to install nut without bezel tool. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

ignition switch bezel

I could not start threading the ignition switch bezel on a 65 98 without cross threading. Tried OER tools but too big. I found the attached from Custom Machine Components and it worked great, except the bezel notches were a bit skanky from being poked with screwdrivers, etc over the years.. The tool is for a 65-68 Starfire/F85/VC, but works on a 98 and 88 I would suppose for those whose fingers are too big or wore out. light switch bezel, wiper bezel and ignition switch.

If you have a little trouble starting the thread to suspecting cross threading, wrap some plumbers tape around the thread. It worked for me on a cross thread on the fuel to carby thread.
