The saga begins!

So I took the 67 98 convertible out for a spin last night. I had the top up so I ran the AC. 15 min later, some God awful noise from under the hood. I was so depressed I couldn't even bring myself to check it out until today. Well, found the clutch to the air compressor had broke apart. Soo glad it wasn't my motor! Now I have the feeling owning this car is going to be a constant project. Lol. I think I better replace the compressor and clutch assembly assuming there is a reason it broke. I don't know. What y'all think?

Just get a clutch plate from a junkyard - darned near any GM car from the late fifties through the early eighties should be the same.

Does the pulley turn?does the compressor turn?or did the plate fail, thats what will determine what needs replacing. That A6 compressor is pretty durable.

Or you can go to the auto parts store and buy a brand new clutch and probably a belt.

Yeah, everything turns. Just the clutch plate broke in half and everything around it was spinning. Whew that's a bad noise! I'm worried the compressor might be starting to go and that's what caused the clutch to break. I guess I can just do the clutch and if it breaks again, I'll know for sure. Thanks guys!
