how rare: A/C?

Anyone have any notion of the approx % of '56 Oldsmobiles with factory A/C? When did Olds go from A/C ducts on the package tray to in-dash A/C?

I really doubt anybody in the entire world will have an answer to your first question. As to the conversion to in dash air, I am going to make a guess it was 1957.

I don't know how many but I have a reference that priced it at $400. That was a LOT back then so the numbers were probably small.

I know for sure that it was before '57, since my '56 98 has factory in-dash air, and I know of one other '56 98 presently in Kansas that has it. Also '53s still had the vents on the rear pkg tray, so I wonder what the '54/55s had, since the new lower body style came along in '54 and had a re-designed dash different from the '53s... hmmm. I'm sure it's rare in any event.

Good thing I said it was a guess. I know the 53 Caddy had the package tray air with ducts in the sides of the headliner. 54 is my revised guess.

I'd say it's pretty rare too! I've been a FAN of '56 Models since I was a Teenager and they're hard enough to find period in most places, let alone w/ Factory Air... Say, where in Kansas is that one w/ Factory Air?? I know of 3, including the one I own but none of these have Factory AC...I'd be interested to see it! At the Olds Natl Meet in Detroit in '08 I parked next to a Gentlemen from the South Suburbs of Chicago who had a '56 98 WITH Factory In-Dash Air; NEAT set up; but his is the only one I've seen in person.

The Kansas car is a white/green 98 near Topeka, I could put you in touch if interested in it. Needs total resto but solid, loaded with options, and asking was about 3500.

i have seen the 55 -98 with a/c in dash factory, i beleive this was the first yr for in dash for olds, i know i seen a 54-98 with the a/c in trunk and the vents in the headliner, not many had this option.
