Edelbrock Perfromer intake #2151 Exhaust Plugs

I just purchased a Edelbrock Performer intake #2151 for my 1969 Oldsmobile 98, 455. I'm puzzled by these exhaust plugs that came with the intake. Can anyone tell me If I'm only using the car for street use do I have install these plugs? The instructions says to install them for marine and off road use. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Tony

They are not mandatory, and not really needed on a street engine. They are used to block off the exhaust crossover ports in the heads to remove the heat under the carb. For a daily driver, the heat under the carb helps vaporize the fuel for better economy and improve driveability in very cold winter conditions; also, on engines with a hot air choke, it provides the heat source for the choke to operate properly.
