66 olds 98 conv. looking for opinion in value

Hello.. I just picked up a 66 98 convertible, and I'm looking for opinions in value for car. interior, top and carpet are in almost new conditions. purchased car from an older gentleman. runs in excellent shape, car is complete. owners son said engind is 416 (never heard of that...i'm guessing it is a 425) runs exellent, all the power works including the top. only has very minor body work needed on rear fender...just small dent. paint is old. but all the chrome is in great condition.

Welcome to the Classic Oldsmobile Forum. I'm not qualified to estimate a price. Someone will jump in here.
I was wondering if you have some more pictures?

66 convertible pictures

Hi Jay.. I don't know how to compress the pictures to make them smaller. tomorrow my detailer is going to clay, hit it was a hot pad, takeout oxidation and wax and seal. I will take before and after pictures.. I will use my camera.. can you recommend how to shrink size of photos? thanks!!!

We could use some more pictures. I just sold a 69 Olds 98 convertible out of an estate I am executor of. It had 65,000 miles. It was a very nice car with one repaint years ago. It was all original and needed nothing. It was dark green with a light green top. A classic car dealer here in Dallas sold it for me in one day for $17,500. I think I got top dollar for the car. Without better pictures, it is not possible to get a good idea. I would guess somewhere in the neighborhood of $7,500. Maybe a little more, maybe a little less.

I can adjust my camera to take different size pictures, 1 to 12 , I simply set it to 1 and never have trouble loading pictures. Check yours to see if it is similar.

I always thought the '66 Ninety-Eight, and especially the convertible, was one of the most attractively styled of any year. As it's a convertible, it will have good value.

The Old Cars Price Guide puts the value of a one of these in "car show" condition (not showroom) at $9,000. Get those issues you mentioned fixed, and the value can get up to the mid-teens.

As far as the engine being a 416, I'm sure it was a 425 to begin with, but we all lose a little over the years!

Somehow I missed this thread in February. I'm glad Jay and Jodi brought it back to life. Since this is my area of special interest, I have watched these cars pretty closely over the last several years. From my observations, I would say the very top dollar for a '66 98 convertible fully restored with virtually all the options would be $21,500. Most of the "really nice" cars are worth about $16,000 to $18,000. Small problems can lower the value in a hurry.

That' the market price we've seen also but than you have ones like ours that are priceless due to the history of the car no amount of money would purchase it :}

Jay, To buy one might prove difficult. There are so many that are similar but not an exact match. To get one rebuilt is pretty much a local thing. There usually are shops in the area to do it. The trick is to ask other car guys at shows, cruises, etc for some input. Good luck

Good for you, Jay! As my father use to say, "You'll never learn any younger". It wasn't really that hard anyway, was it? It will still take a bit of cranking after sitting for a while. There just doesn't seem to be a cure for that. I've tried them all.
