1986 Olds Ninety Eight 2 dr

Does anyone have any info on how many 2 doors were built in 1986? I have yet to see one like mine.

I have an 86 Olds 98 with the Grande package...

I rarely see the coupes, though I did see one in Saudi Arabia a few months ago and was dying to catch up with it!

I have a 1985 Ninety Eight Regency Brougham coupe which is practically the same, it has the velour interior.

Wow- five years ago I did not answer the guy, must have completely overlooked the post.

Not surprising to not see another one- per Standard Catalog of Oldsmobile there were 806 1986 Ninety Eight Regency Coupes built, along with 5007 Regency Brougham Coupes.

1985 production: 4734 Regency Coupes, 9704 Regency Brougham Coupes.

1987 production: last year for the coupe. 4207 Regency Brougham Coupes. No Regency coupes built.

Grande built for 1986-87 as a $975 premium interior package for Broughams. Only production breakout I can find is that "anticipated" production was around 3000 each year, and I daresay they didn't hit it either year.

I am looking for some input concerning the FWD Ninety Eight coupes, I know there aren't many around, but does that qualify them as being rare, or just a little uncommon? Is one of these cars worth putting money into at all, and how much money is too much (engine rebuilds, paint jobs, repairs and work spread out over time etc)? I know they aren't worth that much or a true classic, but I'm trying to decide whether to hang on to this car, or sell it and get an older classic car.

I think they weren't common when new; probably not worth putting too much money into, especially when you can pick up a really nice original one that doesn't need too much for very little cash. The 86 Grande that I bought a couple of years back only set me back $1200, and everything worked on it- was a great driver. I think the 80s produced a lot of good Oldsmobiles- and they are sure to appreciate in value, though they are never going to command the same cash as a Buick T Type Regal or a Corvette.
