they likely are. i have some NOS 76 wires around here somewhere that have the 76 year on them. i had a 62 Dynamic 88 with 70,000 miles in 2002 and it had the 62 dated wires on it. they were not any good but i am sure they were original.

thanks for the info jr77. i had seen on one of the repro sites that they do not offer date coded wires for 75 and up model years, but i did not take that as they did not come that way. most helpful as the car is basically untouched. it will get duals , a carb rebuild and a tune up and timing though as it runs well, but i feel there's a lot on the table response and power wise even though its a big car.

X2 and I can pretty much guarantee they are original and here's why. Date coded wires are available for various models, but not after 1975 in the aftermarket. If the wires were replaced, I highly doubt the original owner would replace them with the exact same wires, if they were ever available from GM. As awesome as these cars are, there is much less aftermarket support for the full-sized models compared to, say, a 64-72 Cutlass/442, too.

If it doesn't miss, leave them alone. There are likely lots of original parts on it. You can always keep originals and replace only what needs to be replaced, if anything. Try looking for 'Standard' brand parts at rockauto.com. They are the OEM for MANY parts for MANY makes. I bought a Standard brand charcoal canister and it was identical to the original. It even said Rochester Products GM and had the same part number on it. The price is right and they still make a good amount of stuff in the USA.

I really like the 75-76 models. Ok, I'll stop rambling and check the albums for your car. If you don't have anything, please post pictures!

Date Coded Wires

In the era of Date Coded Wires -- the 1 Q 76 -- stood for "First Quarter of 1976 -- i.e. January through March of 1976....
Naturally following the progression -- 2 Q 76 -- was "Second quarter of '76" -- i.e. April through June of 1976.... etc. etc.

Those Wires were either original or replaced with original ... probably original --- because people have only bothered paying attention to these sorts of things in the last 15 - 20 years.....

Ask all the guys who want an original ++ DELCO ++ pre-HEI -- date coded -- properly stamped Distributor Cap -- the Camaro & Corvette guys have made what used to be a $ 9.95 Cap into $ 225 presently.......

C'est la vie............
