1968 Olds 98 Convertible hood needed
#2
According to my GM Master Parts Catalogue, both the 88 Series and 98 Series cars have the same hood. Both are listed under Group # 8.000 and carry Part Number 395272 ( 1968...350-360-380 welded)this bracketed group of numbers means: 1968= year, 350=Delmont 88 Cars, 360=Delta 88 Cars, 380= all 98 Series Cars, welded means you get it complete from GM with the outer sheetmetal panel welded to the reinforcing inner, stamped, sheetmetal brace. You didn't just get the outer skin.
The same hood was also used for Hardtop, Sedan, and Convertibles of any 88 or 98 series cars.
I do have a spare hood, it has very minor rust issues, easily repaired, mostly on the inner reinforcement/brace panel where the hood insulation retaining clips snap into place. The outer skin is real good, only a bit of surface rust and scratches in the paint.
A hood is not the easiest thing to ship due to size and ease of getting dinged/dented. Try to find one that is real close to your location so you could pick it up rather than trying to have it shipped. IMO if it were to be shipped, it would need to be crated and well padded. The crating alone would not be cheap if it was done properly.
I hope this is helpful to you.

Ron, I passed by a GM dealer today and asked them to look up the part number you emailed me. I was told this number is not valid. Will you please confirm the number that you sent me is not missing any digits.
Thanks,
Phil

I tried, last year, to get them to look up a 40 amp circuit breaker for my '68 Delmont convertible top....to no avail....they had nothing listed....couldn't do a search, even though I gave them the Group section and part number. It kept coming up as "invalid".....the parts guy told me that anything beyond the early to mid 90's is no longer listed. Did you tell them it was for a '68........it's been decades since GM had any 6 digit part numbers on their database.
I just double checked and 398272 is the correct #. Even if that # showed up on their listing for sheetmetal, it would be a miracle if GM could supply you with a new hood......all that sheet metal is long gone.....sold-off, scrapped, that kind of thing. The only way you are going to aquire one is if you can find a parts car or someone who has an extra hood kicking around.
Where 'bouts are you located ? I'd gladly sell you my extra if I can get it packaged-up and shipped.
I'm in Canada but I've had no trouble bringing items across the border and then shipping them to where ever. I have never shipped anything as large as a hood. That's why I'm suggesting you find someone closer to you that may be able to help you out.
Ron
