1957 98 with J2 option - badging?

Hi - saw a 1957 98 Starfire Sedan on an auction site a few weeks ago. It had a "J2" badge on each front fender. The car had the J2 optioned engine. Is the badge original, or has someone added it to the car?

That doesn't exist - a Starfire sedan- but I was wondering about the J-2 emblems on the front fenders myself. I saw them a couple of times and was wondering about them as well

The brochure for 1957 says that a Starfire 98 4 door sedan existed, and as I said, saw one the other day on a popular auction site.

I have an original sales brochure that I will check later to confirm for sure but I do believe you could get the try-carb option on them. I seam to remember it took the standard 371, which I have in mine, from 277HP to 312HP....get back to you later after I go through the archives.

So I know you could get the J2 option, but was the J2 badge on the fender original, or has someone added it from somewhere else?

I am certainly not an expert on J-2 era cars ( although they are some of my favorites). However, EVERY J-2 equipped car that I have ever seen, even convertibles, never had badging to identify the package.

Looking at this example, I would be highly skeptical not only due to the quality of the lettering, but also the placement.

Just my 2 cent.

Dave - thanks, that's what I thought too. I just doesn't look right in terms of quality and placement.
