1970 442

I just purchased my first Oldsmobile, a 1970 442.The car is a real 442 with the VIN starting 344, it is not a w30 car. As you can see it is a project and will take a few years to get back on the road. The guy I bought it from said it sat in his yard for over 10 years and the last time it was registered was 1986.
It has very little rust since it has lived in Arizona its whole life. It does need a lot of interior parts, a grille and trim.

Cool new ride! I'm digging the slots as well.
And the Rallye hood is a nice touch. Welcome!

What makes the Rallye hood different?

Gotcha, but that color was also available on other A-bodies too. I just didn't know if there was something different about the hood that made you say that.

The sebring yellow was only on the Rallye 350 as far as I know, but it may have been able to be special ordered on others. The stripes that surround the main stripes though, that was only on the Rallye 350 (from the factory).

Sebring Yellow was an extra-cost color for other A-bodies.

And, come to think of it, I would bet it didn't come from a Rallye 350 because it doesn't have the Rallye-specific striping.

It does. You have to look REALLY closely, but it's there.

Thanks to everyone. I do not know where the hood came from but it definitely makes the car look tough. We are thinking about putting the wing on to complete the look. The car has an automatic in it right now but will be replaced with a 4 speed since that is what it came with from the factory.

Oh man! That's a sweet score. It looks amazing. I reckon the heat out there in the Southwest does a number on the plastic parts and weatherstripping, but you should'nt have too much rust to deal with.

Congrats! And welcome to the site.

You need to confirm that it has the original engine because putting a stick behind an Olds engine isn't like a Chevy. Crankshafts not destined for stick use were not drilled for the pilot bushing and as such are not usable with a manual transmission.

Thanks, yes the sun has destroyed what is left of the interior and rubber seals. The body only has one spot of serious rust and that is behind the rear wheel. The floors and trunk are solid.
I figure most of the rubber needs to be replaced on a project car anyway so my main concern was a solid body. I know this is going to be expensive but aren't all projects.

Thanks for the info svnt442, it is a bare block so I will make sure I get the right crankshaft.

You can have it drilled out if you can't find an original. I thought you had a running engine (or at least a complete one).

There are specs on this site somewhere for the correct diameter and depth needed so the stock pieces will fit in the crank, but I don't know where.
