New member from France (with a lot of questions!!) :)

Hi guys!

As a newbie, I introduce myself in this post!

My name is Christophe, and I'm french!
I love US Cars since I'm a young boy and always dreamed of belonging a nice 60/70's car!

I already have a 1986 Pontiac FIERO 2.8L, V6, that I totally restored during 6 years!
Now it runs great and is almost a daily driver!!

But now it's time for me to get one these nice Cutlass I always looked for!!

I found a 1969 Cutlass Supreme in my area in France! It runs great, but would need a lot of interior restoration, and new paint!

If everything is OK, I would get it within a month!
My goal is to restore it the closest to the original!

I have some questions:
1- I often see Cutlass S or Cutlass Supreme, but it's the same, right?
2- I would need pic (or link) of a correct front door panel for a Cutlass Supreme.
3- Would need all correct '69 interior parts for a Supreme (seats covers, foam, headliner, all door panels, back seats...) = where is for you the best place (shipping overseas) to order online these correct parts?

Thanks a lot for all your help!!
Chris

Welcome. You are correct that for the 1969 model year, the Cutlass, Cutlass S, Supreme, and 442 are the same basic car. The differences are in trim, upholstery pattern, and standard equipment (engine, trans, suspension, etc).

Legendary shows both the standard Cutlass and the Supreme upholstery in their catalog. I also checked on Google Images and all the 1969 Supremes that I could find pictures of had incorrect Cutlass upholstery, not the correct Supreme upholstery shown in the Legendary catalog. Good luck.

Welcome aboard Christophe.
Is the car a coupe or convertible. As joe pointed out one of the best interior companies in the US is called Legendary Auto interiors. Here's the link to their site. legendary auto interiors

Most of the 1968 and 1969 body parts are compatible with each other, but the dashes are slightly different as the 69 model year introduced the ignition on the steering column. The front and back end styling was also significantly different.

Do you have any pictures of the car?

Bonjour Christophe!
Tom

Thanks a lot for ALL your comments and help!!
That's really nice and really appreciate it!!
By the way, very nice french Tom!!

Thanks also for the link to LegendaryAutoInteriors!

Here are some pics of the car!
A 1969 Cutlass Supreme Coupe that comes for California!

Brakes, suspension, exhaust, tires are new!
It runs great, brakes nice, starts up good... but really needs a new paint and new interior!

That's a really nice base (I think! )
I'm thinking about a nice deep blue paint and a brand new black interior!

What do you think about it?

Looks like a really nice project. I'm guessing the trim in the back seat is for the rear window? Power windows are a nice option especially for cruising around at low speed.

Are you thinking something like this color, or darker? I know it's a 442 in the picture but it will give an idea of color? You of course will have more lower panel stainless trim.

Yes, indeed! Trim is for back window!

Thinking about this kind of glossy blue, with complete new black interior, and a niiiiice Grant steering wheel!

Black plate car, very nice. Calif changed from the black to the blue plates in 1969, so you're lucky to get those. Hang on to them or sell them.

What part of France are you located in? My wife and I have a vacation property in La Roque sur Ceze, about half an hour from Avignon.

I'm actually located in Paris!
What a coincidence!! We also have a vacation property near Avignon!!!

Will keep the black plates !

Would need some help again!
Not really sure about what I have to select to narrow my searches on LegendaryAutoInt.

Choices are:
-CLUB COUPE (68 POST)
-SPORTS COUPE (68-72 POST)
-HOLIDAY COUPE (68-70 NO POST)
-HARDTOP COUPE (71-72 NO POST)
-CONVERTIBLE

For a 1969 Cutlass Supreme, I would have choose SPORTS COUPE?

Thanks again!

Chris

Your car is a Holiday Coupe, which is Oldsmospeak for 2dr hardtop. The Sport Coupe is the 2dr sedan with the post. I would be careful with a listing that claims 1968 and 1969 are the same, as they are not. 1968 Holiday Coupes had a vent window, 1969-up did not. The front door panels are different because of this.

The seat upholstery you need is on page H6 of this catalog, at the bottom. Door panels are at the bottom of page H26 of the same catalog. The repro door panels don't come with the chrome trim. You'll have to carefully remove the trim on your old ones and transfer it to the new ones.

VIN# 342879Z111655

4287 Cutlass Supreme 2 dr. Holiday Coupe (now I know! lol )
9 1969
Z Fremont, CA
111655 #11655 in production

Also preparing a list of all parts I'll need!

1- Can you please confirm to me following parts:
-Black floor carpet / Part #CA68GUA(100G) that is at the top of page H37?
-Black REAR seats cover: Holiday Coupe Rear / Part #AA69GUD0048(100G) at the bottom of page H6?
-Black Headrest Covers........HC69GA00014(100G) at the bottom of page H6?

2- Also, what is the difference between (Unassembled) & (Pre-assembled) (for ex: door panel)?

3- Would I need some "kits" (trim, clips...) for door panels, seats covers, or floor carpet?

Thanks again!!!!

Yes to all.

2- Also, what is the difference between (Unassembled) & (Pre-assembled) (for ex: door panel)?
The unassembled panels are typically just the flat cardboard and vinyl cover. You need to reuse the curved upper metal piece from your old panels. The assembled ones come with this piece installed. They are more expensive to buy and to ship, so your call. From the photo in the catalog, I don't think the ones for your car come with the chrome, as I mentioned before. I also am not sure if either version comes with the chrome armrest backing plate or not. You should probably ask them.

3- Would I need some "kits" (trim, clips...) for door panels, seats covers, or floor carpet?
I don't know if their upholstery comes with the hog rings or not. If not, you'll need those and a hog ring pliers (if you plan to install them yourself - an upholstery shop should have all these). It's a good idea to get extra door panel clips. How are the window fuzzies (inner and outer)? Now's the time to replace them if needed.

As you can see, this can rapidly turn into the "MIGHTASWELL" full body-off restoration...

Thanks a lot for your answer Joe!
Contacted them and started a list of parts I'll need!!

According to the following pic, do you think this steering wheel will match?
Ebay auction specifies that it won't fit "ALL 1969- 1993 OLSMOBILE MODELS WITHOUT TELESCOPIC STEERING COLUMN".

Really like this steering wheel!!

-Grant steering wheel i'm interested in:

-Actual steering wheel:

Thanks again!!

Here's a pic of my 69 Trophy Blue 442 drop top. This one has blue carpet and interior. At one time I owned a Trophy Blue hard top with black vinyl top and black interior Both combos look nice IMHO

That particular wheel is a generic wheel with a custom hub that fits specific cars. You can get adapter hubs for just about any application you desire. Just about every GM steering column from 1969 to well into the 1990s has the same upper end splines, so aftermarket wheels and adapter hubs for these cars are very easy to find. The ebay ad you linked to does indicate that the hub fits your car, so this one should work. Several members of our local club have exactly this wheel on their Oldsmobiles.

Very nice car Jamebo!!!
Really love it!!!

Once again, thanks a lot for your help Joe!
This steering wheel will soon be mine!

Would need some more help!

1- Do someone of you have a clear pic of where I'll be able to find the engine code?

2- What exact code should I find for a 1969 Cutlass Supreme?

3- is the engine rated at 280hp or 310hp?
Did find different datas, but don't know which one is the right.

Thanks again!
