new member olds 88
I have a 49 olds 88 in which I have installed a fat man stub, and 350 with 2/4,s. griffin radiator and cragar drag light wheels. All it needs is wind shield and master cyl. About 7 years ago I stopped at m/c. Can some one help me with a choice?I have been thinking of a kugel. I did not make a flat firewall.I am a retired diesel mech, hello everyone I live in sunny Pensacola fla. Also my friend has a 56 olds 98 convertible project, no rust in or out rebuilt 324 with no miles. needs top paint and interior. Any interest??? my e mail kyzercd71@yahoo.com. I am not trying to sell his car, I am trying to get a member that might want a 56
Welcome aboard, there should be a lot of interest in the 56 vert, very few left, please post a few pictures and see what she looks like.As far as the 49 I believe a fifty windshield will also fit if you eliminate the center post ,seems I remember doing that back in the day when these were just used cars and we were trying to get one back on the road cheaply.
What are your issues that you are having with your M/C, are you looking for a particular look or trying to find a good perch for the thing out of the way of those 2/4's..... Lost in the fifties...Tedd

windshield
I will use a 50,s front windshield, yes they do fit, much better than finding parts for center post between windshields. It also has r+p, stainless stearing column with stainless stearing shaft. engine is a 330 hp crate motor with airgap and 2/4,s and a crower beast master cam. I have windows 8, have been unable to learn how to post pictures as of yet.I may be able to get my daughter do ,it for me. the 56 is solid, not a bit rust inside or out. Owner tore it down in 2004 and got cancer.It has new front and rear bumpers and all trim except for doors. Any interest for now ill take pictures and mail them until I learn windows 8 ps, I cant spell, so forgive me, been 40 years since I went to colledge

m/c
If I had done one before I would have no problem.Most people use a mid 70,s year booster and m/c. I do not have a flat firewall, don't know which pedal or m/c to choose or exactly where to place it. I am looking at a kugel 180degree pedal with aluminan m/c;
I just got lazy and started on antique boats I did a frame off by myself but balked at m/c. I do have mig, plasma cuter and sheet medal bender. Have pulled up some pictures of 49,s with aftermarket m/c but not anough detail. the carbs are not in way, just very uneven firewall

There should be lots of interest in the 56 if the price is right. I know Old's Dad(member here) has been looking for a project 55 vert for a while a 56 could be in his future you might give him a private message if he dos't see this post.
As far as your M/C is concerned many of adaptations have been made using a Chevy S10 M/C and swing peddles others will work also. If you have the skills make a cardboard pattern in your uneven areas then transfer the cardboard shape to metal. Be careful to use thick enough material so there isn't any flex in your firewall or anywhere else, flex leads to crack failure and we are talking about brakes here so be extra careful. This shouldn't be that hard of a adaption if you can cut weld and grind.....Tedd
