car search

Hey guys I need some help trying to find or search for a 442 I purchased new. I don't have any numbers to go by. I am trying to get some info from the state dmv where I bought it. The new privacy laws now you have to sign some papers. Waiting for the paper. It was a little different because I ordered it with a bench seat and 4 speed. It was a w30 blue with black stripes and black interior. It was a 1970 and was purchased in South Dakota

When did you lose track of it? Last week? Or in, say, 1971? If the former, you have a snowball's chance in hell of finding it. If it was 40+ years ago, you probably don't even have that. It's very possibly not even on the road anymore and sitting in a junkyard or maybe part of a new bridge somewhere. As desirable and collectible as 442s were and are, not every one of them ever made has survived to today.

What were the circumstances when you got rid of it? Trade it in at a dealer? Sell it to a private party? If the latter, do you remember the person's name? If so, see if you can find that person. If it's a dealer, it's probably a lost cause because, even if the dealer is still in business, they likely haven't kept records from back then.

What it comes down to is length of time since you last knew of it. If it was recently, you have chance. If it was many years ago, you likely don't.

But good luck.
