75 Cutlass S
75 Cutlass S
Hi all! I've been lurking for a while, great forum.
My parents bought my '75 Cutlass S new when my car seat wouldn't fit in the back of their '73 Z28 Camaro. It was driven lightly for a few years, and mostly stored the past 25 years, brought out for special occasions and never seeing a rain drop or snow flake. It currently has about 41K miles.
Dad passed away last year, and my mom and sisters don't have a lot of interest in it, so I'm the new caretaker.
It's in great shape, and completely original. The paint is faded a little and the air conditioner needs to be recharged. Hopefully I can get that done soon and take her out a little more than usual this year.

Sorry on the passing of your father. You should be honored to assume the responsibilities for the car. Get teh car out & enjoy it. Besides the A/C give it a good once over, checking all the belts, hoses, brakes, fluids, etc.
Thanks! My dad was a real car nut, and while he would probably rather have still had the Z28, he babied this thing and every other vehicle he owned. I love old cars, but I don't have anywhere near the knowledge of my dad, and I'm definitely not a mechanic.
Great suggestion to check the belts/hoses/brakes/etc., it's probably been at least 15 years since any of those were replaced.
Can anyplace recharge the air conditioner, or will I have to take it someplace special? It was last done around 10 years ago, and the guy who works on our farm tractors charged it (we have multiple late 70's-80's model IH tractors with cabs).

Sorry to hear about your loss.
Nice car! Based on the information and photo you posted, I'd say you have what's known as a Y76 Special Marketing Edition Cutlass (Y76 Reference).

Sure, no problem.
Cool, it's nice to see another Y76 car in it's original "survivor" condition.
To answer your A/C question, any reputable A/C service center should be able to recharge your system. Do you know if your family friend recharged the system with R12 or if he converted to 134A? Just curious.
Keep us posted on your progress with the car.
