Hi Guys!

Hello everyone! My Name is Roy and I Just purchased a 1968 442 in "Driver" condition. Well maybe a bit nicer than driver. I look forward to tinkering on it, maintaining a factory look, while mildly improving the performance. I am sure I will have many questions on many subjects. I have always played with chevys and anticipate a bit of a learning curve here...

Thanks in advance all!!! -Roy

Welcome! Anxious to see pics...I am "redoing" one right now. Is it a Canadian built 442?

Yes Rocket I am a local daycab driver I drive from NJ, to Connecticut and back each day No, this one is not Canadian. It was built in Linden, NJ.

My wife is a waitress nearby and after I got the historic plates on her Saturday, I brought it up to the luncheonette where she works and had some lunch. When I came back outside there was a crowd of guys checking out the car.. That has got to be the best damn feeling in the world!

I am going to try and post some pics of when she first got home last week.. (if this works) lol

Roy, good eye for a great ride and pleasing to see the fender stripe is where it belongs and it's without hoopty rims. and I can appreciate what you have there as I have 2 68 4 spd 442's . only they didn't look so good as your "driver" when I got them. a real Oldsmobile youngmobile!!

Yes that is a great looking car and a 4 speed to boot.
One of the best things is the stripe is in the correct spot.
Very nice.

Beat me to it. It's rare to see a 68 with the W-36 side stripes (and 442 emblems) in the correct, factory-applied location. Very nice car.

Welcome to this site from a fellow '68 owner! There are lots of people here with '68s and a lot of great technical expertise. Have fun with your car - it sure looks great!

Hehehe... I may be new to OLDS... but I am not stupid. lols I am sure I would get a serious beat down were I to even toy with the idea that my wife could be ready for historic plates... (a serious whoopin)

Thanks for all the positive guys!

Truth be told.. I wouldn't have known a correct stripe from an incorrect one. My concern was that the car was a real "442" That took me a few hours of research as to what to look for before I bought it.. That was all fairly easy to verify in just a few moments. The stripe looks good on the car and I have to say I assumed it belonged there. I did not know it was a part of a rare option that the car doesn't have.

The guy I bought it from was an Olds "guru" lols At least to me.. He went as far as to recreate the semi random marks and X's on key drivetrain components that would be there from the factory. Most of the flaws on this car are in the bodywork and it has the dreaded rust under the windshield which will have to be addressed eventually.. but all in all I just want to enjoy it for a while before I tear into it too much.

Thanks again guys for the positive welcome!

Yes. Collingswood NJ. Car was in storage for a few years. I am having the radiator re-cored as a direct result of sitting for too long.

Why? Do you think you may know the car? The guy I bought it from knew his stuff, but he was in negotiation mode. (if you know what I mean)

You know, Old Bridge is 10 minutes away from Sayreville.. You could stop by here one weekend, check out the car.. and give me some pointers.
