67 442 engine casting
I am looking at a 67 442. It has an engine with what appears is the casting number 390923E. This is based on a picture the current owner sent me. I was hoping the engine casting number would have been 390925E. Any thoughts. Also, the engine is metallic blue, not bronze ........ although it does have the 442 engine decal on the valve cover.

The "3" is probably a "5" if your sure about the "E" which is 66-67. The number is above the water pump next to the oil filler tube. The heads should have a "C" and a "V2XXXXXG" stamped on a pad behind alternator or A/C bracket. More ID info here.

Could have been repainted and those stickers can be purchased unless it looks like it been there awhile course valves covers can be swapped.
The cowl tag should have a "5V" unless it's a "Fremont CA" car like the pic and I don't know what it should have. One of mine is a CA built car.

390925 E is the correct block casting for a 1966-67 442 (as well as a 1967 Turnpike Cruiser). There is no such casting as 390923 E, so that's just a mis-read. It's often difficult to accurately read the block casting number if there's crud or rust in the way. Also, since the numbers are just depressions in the sand casting cores, they can become distorted.

Yes. I just realized my block picture wasn't the greatest. I also mentioned what else to look for. You'd have to check julian dates if you wanted to match the block to the car and that's no guarantee.

So how does putting into into a time-frame that it "could have been, but wasn't" put into a car more correct? Nobody has ever been able to answer that for me.
When they sold replacement parts, they didn't consider date codes.
You know I'm not picking on you, 442X. It's just that the date coding business has gone way out of reason.
