Just want to say Hello to all the members out there! Great forum you have here, I've been reading posts for the past week or so as I shop for a good value on a great muscle car.

My first car was a 72' Cutlass I bought for $600 when I was 15, just a 2-brl 350, but that rocket sure could beat most 350's I went up against! I promptly lost my license, and a year later took a gravel road corner too fast and rolled the car into a corn field behind the Vali-hi drive-in movie, just east of my home in St. Paul, MN (Tartan high 92').

I've been dreaming of a muscle car ever since! Now I can afford one, hope to get into something, basically rust-free, for $15k to $20k. Has to be a 4-speed and most likely a 455 for a heavy car like a 68' to 72'. I have to admit, I also have a soft spot for 68' Firebirds, and 70' AMC AMX's. If anyone comes across a good value, please send me a PM.

Thanks!

Welcome and hope you enjoy the site. Lots of very knowledgable folks on here and useful info. I am sure in that price range in this economy you can find a nice car. Glad you are adament about 4 speed. Nothing beats a big block with a stick, 93 octane and a fresh set of BF Goodrich Radial TA's specifically 275's out back ready to be toasted all over town. LOL

Cracker, My wife went to Tartan as well, but a decade or so before. We must be neighbors, I'll keep my eyes open for a muscle car for you.

Hey! Thanks for the offer, I noticed there's a couple of guys on here from MN. Your short-lived add for the 442 (stunner) is what initially brought me here! Your wife would probably know my older brother and sisters I bet, last name is McGaa (sounds like McGaw).

My wife was the class of 81, name doesn't ring a bell. This spring stop by and I'll let you drive the Olds to make sure you want one. Providing you got your licence back from the high school days.

I am very responsible now - sadly
I drive a stick every day too, behind a 4 cyl though. I would love to take you up on that offer, and would insist on putting some gas in the tank. My brother John was class of 82', we also hung out with the McGinnis family (still do) she might know them.

I'm in Maplewood, too! (Gladstone area) With all these "East Siders", we'll definitely have to get the Olds people together in N. St. Paul!

Welcome to the site bro....from someone who DOESN'T live in MN

Good luck with your search. As stated, there's a lot of nice cars available now because of the economy. Be patient. I recommend 442.com as well (that's where I just got my '70 a few months ago).

Welcome to CO! Enjoy your search for a big block musclecar, I like the choices, Olds, Firebird or AMX. All good ones!

Thanks for the welcoming committee! I am still so green, I don't even know which I prefer driving, a small block in a pony-car like 68' Firebird, or a 455 in an Olds about 800 lbs heavier, or maybe a 390 in a short wheel base AMX (somewhere in between). Right now I have a cherry 02' clk55 AMG cabrio, which is 3800lbs and 390 lbs or torque, if it came in a manual trans I would probably add a quaife LSD and keep it.
