New to Classsic Olds

Hey guys,

New to the site, but not new to Oldsmobile. Bought the C.S. as my second car in 1983 at 14, pictured in my avatar. Was pretty tired and engineless when I bought it, worked on it for two years, doing all work myself in the driveway. Was ready to drive on my 16th birthday, drove it for 5 years 120,000 miles, then parked it. Have started it randomly over the last 20 years, it still runs, but needs a good bit of work. I have rekindle my interest, as my bank barn was severelyy damaged in storm Sandy, and had to pull it out of what most would consider poor storage. Attached are a few pics, just after painting in 1985, summer of '86, and earlier this month. Have been into Model As, longer than oldsmobiles, but there will now be room for both A's and the C.S. in my soon to be new shop. Cant wait to have it move under its own power again.....

Welcome to C.O.
Sounds like it will be a fun re-build. At least it still turns over. New shop and storage will be a much nicer resting place than what it's been living in lately. The car has a lot of potential.

Welcome to CO.

Yea, I'd say you have a good platform to build on. At least, you know where its been and where its going. Good luck, getting it where you want it. Hey, its only time and money

Let us know how its going from time to time.

Welcome to the site! Nice looking car back when it was freshly painted. Several years ago I drug home a 1965 442 project car with chicken droppings on it.... but it wasn't nearly as bad as yours looks at the moment

I look forward to watching you clean it up and rebuild it again. Once you get into it I'm sure it will bring back lots of memories

Thanks guys, having lurked for a few days before joining, I see there is a phenomenal amount of knowledge here stemming out from a very solid core. I have greatly enjoyed the pictures, lots of great cars. Can't wait to venture into archived posts, and info therein. I look forward to coming to know you guys.

I have been going over it just a little, and yes bringing back some memories for sure. I had forgotten how simple a vehicle these are, mechanically speaking. I had taken the brakes apart, had installed a new brake booster and master cylinder, have flex lines, ill get wheel cylinders and new calipers, I see they have some nice pre bent hard lines available now. Since the old system was open to moisture, perfect time to switch to silicone brake fluid. Already put a new shift cable and cable pin bolt to the dualgate. Got the seals and whatnot to repair the front pump seal on the t-400 tranny. Will change fluids and pull the Holley apart for a quick rebuild, clean the points and plugs, should have it running pretty quick.

Sorry, didn't mean to ramble, just sort of excited, this site is too cool!
