Hello from Waibel Competition

My name is Jeremy Waibel, the son of Jimmy Waibel. I am glad to be a part of this forum. My dad used to run for the smothers brothers racing team and drove the King Olds Car. We are currently running a 69 Camaro in NHRA competition and we are looking forward to getting the king olds car restored in the near future.

SB Car

This is the most current pic that we have. Looking not so much like it did in the days my dad had it... but glad to have it back.

You have no idea how much the Smothers Brothers Olds racing team influenced me as a 13 year old kid. We were an Oldsmobile family of course, but reading about their racing Oldsmobiles got me off.

For some unknown and unexplainable reason, my mama would never let me watch the Smothers Brothers TV show. I never got to watch Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In either, which put me at a clear disadvantage in 7th grade social skills since everyone else's more "enlightened" parents let them watch both shows. Mama said I was smart-*** enough without watching something that would bring out more.

At least the car survived and now you have it safe. Hope to see you over on the Oldsmobile race car thread. Glad you are here.

Glad to have you on board Jeremy!!! Boy!, you have your work cut out for you on that S/B car. Obviously whoever had it didn't think as much of it as we all do. Please keep us posted on the restoration.

Talking Welcome to CO

Glad to see you're going to restore a piece of great Oldsmobile racing history. I hope you post in progress pictures when you start the restore.

The first pix we would like to see are of the documentation and/or verification that this IS THE real original King Olds SB car!! Without that, it will be just another "clone" or "tribute" car! I hope you have the documentation and look forward to seeing it!!! Speaking from experience ---we all know the value of the "real thing" vs a "tribute" car -- just ask Dave Siltman above!!! -- just sayin.................... !!

Yep that's it Vista. In the other thread he was looking for the trunk detail and this pic you posted it looks bare. Maybe the added lettering or stickers after that pic.

Tweed it is red under the yellow and he and his Dad knew where it went But documentation is a key factor here. I'm sure being part of the Original Smother's Bros team that there should be some documentation somewhere for these cars

Yes, it is definitly going to be a work in progress.. however we were cleaning out some things in our shop the other day and came across a BRAND new still in box convertible top!!! In perfect condition!!! We were and are so excited!!! Cant wait to get the numbers that we could find looked up..
As far as documentation, I am not sure if my parents still have that or not.. of course we will be looking.

Hi Jeremy, my car (from old race photo) has a "W" sticker on the rear quarter. Is that your dad's logo?

I wonder how strong a connection there was? Parts, engines? Any insights?

Unfortunately, you may be waiting a while. This thread is from 2012 and Jeremy's last activity on this site was Jan 2013. I don't know if he's still out there lurking.
