Does anyone know if the 1970 442 W30 use TCS(transmission controlled spark? I bought a repro aluminum intake from Parts place, but cant figure out where the TCS solonoid would mount.

 

Yes it does. It mounts on the stud intake bolt on the passenger side middle.

 

+1 it uses a manifold bolt that has a head in the middle of it to keep the manifold down and then the TCS gets attached to the top part of the threaded stud with a nut. The car doesn't need it but it is correct.

 

Thanks Steven. Also, my 70 service manual has a few crude pictures of various engine and trans set ups, but the picture you just explained, says w30(except a/c) . My car has a/c.

 

my car does as well, somewhere it states I should have the TCS switch though, let me check for you. You can find the engine manual on wildaboutcars for your own reference as well.

Do you have the 3-port vacuum switch that is in front of the manifold on the passenger side. the engine manual does not state W30s should have it but the assembly manual shows it goes in when adding AC. These are the little details that get confusing

 

The engine I am using came out of a 1970 Delta 88. It was the low horse 2 barrel engine. It did have a tcs and the vacuum port switch with the three ports top to bottom. I wanted to use both of these since the aluminum intake has a place for the vacuum port switch. The 88 had A/C. Thanks for the help!

 

If you look on page 76 of Section 6 of the assmbly manual it has a list of parts on each of the engine types. If yours was the 455 from a 1970 88 with 2 barrel, AT and AC then it would be the Type UD, eng code A2N. This engine did have a TCS Solenoid and also the TVS. I use this part of the Section 6 often to confirm my understanding of the assembly pictures which sometimes use reverse logic.
