New Cultass Owner!!

Alright I have listened to my inner voice that stated I needed a muscle car again! So yesterday I picked up this beautiful 71 Cutlass Supreme Holiday Coupe. I have been able to decode some of the numbers but the cowl tag. Seems to be no good info on these. Here is the cowl tag

ST71-33687 R15842 BDY
TR947 26A PNT
06B375

Engine Block-396021F- 455 block (not sure on year can't see casting by distributor)
Factory Intake-L casting 455 4barrel AT/MT
Heads-7 with offset A-72 Olds 350 heads with small valves/chamber!
Cast Manifolds- W LH/Z RH with true dual going to Flowmaster.
Trans-TH400 was told but haven't crawled underneath to confim stamping/pan shape.
Rear-Believe to be posi but haven't located code yet.

The car runs pretty good but needs a carb rebuild was getting horrible mileage not that I expect excellent. (was a couple times a year driver) Also didn't seem rev quick enough when you play with it in park.

Has a holley carb but haven't looked for model ID yet.

Was told interior is original minus the steering wheel. She has no power feature but does have A/C. (bad clutch and missing line at moment)

She needs a few things and I expected that. The body is excellent and has front floor patches at some time with fiberglass and rear patches I'm pretty sure.

Also is the car supposed to have woodgrain in it? (looks like was removed)The dash clock supposed to light up with other gauges? (no workie)

Last toy was a 79 TA I rebuilt that had a 400BB Ponitac and Borg Super T-10 but she sadly was sold. Here are some pic what do you think?

Welcome, very nice ride.

The clock should light up like the other gauges.
I think the Cutlass is supposed to have woodgrain interior accents, I don't know about the Cultass.

Haha typo thats what happens when you have been up since 7am and will be up till 8am today before sleep! Add a 6hr drive on there too! But no woodgrain inserts for the door panels? Looks like the console and gauge bezel had it sometime.

Welcome! Nice looking Cutlass Not a Supreme however. The Supreme is the knotchback style while the Cutlass and Cutlass S (Sport?) are the fastback style. Either way it's a nice looking car!

Welcome to our site, Magna! Nice Cultass, lol!!! (sorry, Blue rubbed off on me) She looks very pretty! Teepo has woodgrain on her dash and door panels, but she's a 72.

Thanks. Good someone else spent the money to convert to floor shift and buckets. Had a feeling it was a bench as I saw another set of holes in the floor when I was removing the risers from under the driver seat last owner installed. (short) The white would of looked great but hard to keep clean. Will try and find the rear end code later.

Hey guys,

Maybe someone can help me decode my cowl tag also? If I read it correctly tag reads as follows:

ST71 4467LAN 420745 BDY
TR989 68 E4 PNT
05D

Car is a 1971 442 convertible, built in Lansing, which agrees with the VIN. So I understand the top line. I believe the 68 is the original paint (Saddle Brown). What does the rest mean, please?

Previous owner told me that car was originally Saddle Brown, and he had it repainted to current Viking Blue & White.

Thanks!

4467 = 442 Convert (cutlass supreme platform)
TR 989 = Sienna Bench seat
68 = Sable Brown Exterior Color
E = Sandalwood Color Convertible top
4 = (possibly) April '71 build month at Fisher plant
05 = May assembly
D = 4th week (May '71)

Welcome!! Nice Car! If I didn't have to have a convertible, I like the S body style a bit better than the Supreme. (I know I'm opening myself up for a lot of crap by saying that..JMO!!) Like I tell most Newbies, I'm new this year as well, and this site is packed with great people and a priceless amount of info and support. My last car was a 78 T/A W27 4 speed car. This is my first Olds, and It's everything I thought it would be....Enjoy!
