I have a 1970 W30 4 speed that has had problems with hesitation when accelerating since carb rebuilding. Is there an accurate guide for this specific carb for proper rebuilding? Does someone do proper rebuilds. Help! Thanks

 

Might not be the carb. If your certain it is, try Sparky's. Just Google and you should be fine. I've never had him do one for me, but everyone that has is happy.

The accelerator pump is not delivering enough fuel.

 

Do you think sending the carb to a place like Sparky's is a good idea to solve the problem? JK.

 

Where was it rebuilt? Did you swap a rebuilt one on, or is this the original? There may be two holes on the accelerator pump arm, I don't remember off hand.

 

It is the original carb that was rebuilt by a quadrajet mechanic. Problem was he was not familiar with W30 carbs ( more a corvette guy) and rebuilt it incorrectly. Luckily, he saved all the original parts.

 

where are you from, there's another carb guy near my house that rebuilds these all the time and I know them so that helps. I have heard nothing but good things about sparky so that would probably work as well. I had a company in California "misplace" one of my W30 carbs, never got it or money back.

Some acc. pump arms have 2 holes - is yours in the outboard hole??

A picture of the 'x-tra' parts would help, too.

 

I have used both Sparky and Cliff Ruggles.

Both do outstanding work.

Call them to discuss.

 

Although there are differences in specifications and adjustments, QuadraJets are all about the same to rebuild - you take it apart, clean the parts, replace consumable and wear parts (float, gaskets, needle and seat, accel. pump diaphragm, maybe install a throttle shaft bushing), follow the manual for adjustments as you reassemble it. Maybe I'm an idiot (been called worse), but I cannot see what would be different about a Corvette carb. that would make someone rebuild an Olds carb. (or a Buick carb.) the wrong way, so long as he followed the manual, or the folded paper that came with the rebuild kit. If he just set it up by "memory" (ie: he guessed), then I don't think I'd call him a "mechanic" - more of a "monkey."

What original parts did he give you that were no longer inside your carburetor?
Personally, I have found that when I have "extra" parts left over after I fix something, it usually doesn't work the same way it had before.

when I put my new SMI carb on it was my first q jet . It took me some time to get it set up has the builder took a look at it he or she should be helpful
on getting it tuned.

 

Yeah, I sent it to the carb shop in Rancho Cucamongo about 10 years ago, that place was around since the 60s, everyone said "send it there" little did I know someone took over ownership the year before and the place closed down over Christmas, locked all the employees out and the carbs disappeared Some of the guys went to another shop but who knows where my carb ended up - man that one still hurts. I figured it was worth no more than 50 - 100 bucks as a core

 

IIRC, 70 w30 does not use primary rods. If he rebuilt it, maybe he added rods and different jets that don't work well with your application???
