85 Cutlass Supreme Brougham Coupe
85 Cutlass Supreme Brougham Coupe pics added
Hi! I joined up as I recently became interested in restoring my relatives' Cutlass with 68,000 original miles on it. I remember riding in the back as a teen when my folks delivered it to them, and they've had it ever since! I recently drove it myself, and it still floats like a dream. I guess '85 isn't quite "classic" yet, but it's getting there!

Thanks for all the welcomes! Well, the Cutlass belongs to relatives who live in SC. My parents bought a Delta 88 Brougham in 85 at the same time here in PA, and we drove both cars down when we went to visit. I loved that Delta 88, too! Many, many vacations in it, and some self-repairs on it as that was the car I used when I learned to drive. I recall once coming too close to the cement "U" by a gas pump and bending the center of the wire wheel which pulled out a lot of the spokes. I disassembled all those little wire Vs and straightened them out before my parents came home from work! My mom was sad to let it go in 2001. That was her baby!
Anyway, back to the Cutlass Supreme. It's the 5.0 liter V8 engine. I took a few quick pictures of it last week while I was on vacation. From the SC sun, I think the clearcoat is basically gone, and it has a dent from a run-in with a golf cart on the right front fender. Excuse the original floor mats and the dirty engine compartment. Of course the headliner is coming down inside. Perhaps I'll replace it one day. The A/C has been converted. It's still in daily use by my relatives, who intend to hold onto it. I don't blame them! If you'd like any other details, feel free to ask!

Welcome to Classic Olds!
Easy-to-restore car you got... Most should be easy though, except the headliner. The deteriorated foam will make a huge mess when it is removed.
Engine bay should clean up nicely and interior looks good.
The paint used in that era was notorious for deteriorating in a few years - it was a transition to a new environment friendly paint - always a bad experience.
My 86 has the same paint issue, and the same miles as yours!.

Thanks for the welcome and info on the paint. It's really terrible to touch it with a greasy hand and not be able to remove the mark, and it's white to boot. When you wash it you really can't tell the difference! Since the car is not mine (yet), I'm mostly leaving it alone for the time being except for the trim as it's my relatives main mode of transportation. I'm sure the headliner will be a mess when I get to it, but for now it's just bubbling in spots, and not so low as to be touching your head as I've seen with other cars.

. It is awesome, and super helpful and generous with thier knowledge too.I had an 88 cutlass classic with the same headliner issue as you, I did have a local place replace it for about $100, they removed, replaced material and reinstalled it, cause they where friends of my buddie who was with me, so we stayed and chatted till they where done, it looked great. I have seen the material cheap, I just don't remember where, but its not that difficult, unless it's 100 degrees out
.You have a super nice cutlass, I hope to fine one that clean some day.
