Welcome to CO. Are you doing some historical research?

If you go to this website

http://www.ilsos.gov/regstatus/

and type in that VIN, you get a result showing that the most recent title issued for this car was on February 15 of this year. That suggests that the car still exists and is still somewhere in Illinois. Interestingly, the site also shows that there is a lien on the car, suggesting that whoever owns it either took out a loan to buy it or has had to borrow against it, if such a thing is possible.

You might want to call the Illinois DMV office and ask if you can get any more info about the car. You might not be able to if privacy laws come into play. Let us know if you make any further inquiries and what you find out.

Good luck. My guess is that if you don't get anywhere with the DMV, you're unlikely to find it through any systematic approach. It'll just depend on you or your friend coming across it by accident.

If the DMV doesn't pan out, the next thing I would try is to assume that the car didn't stray far from home. I'd assume it's still in the general area where you sold it and go to some of the local car shows and cruise-ins and ask anyone else there with an Oldsmobile if they know of the car. The owner might be a member of the OCA and the Illinois chapter. Or somebody might remember the car and know what happened to it.
