brakeless on 1956 oldsmobile
Hi am driving my first olds in a long time and dont rememember the brakes being this poor requiring this much leg pressure and having to plan my stops so early no power assist on this one could i add power brakes and or calipers both drums and shoes look goodany help would be greatly appreciated
How long has it been since you drove one of these old cars. We get used to driving newer vehicles with 4-wheel anti-lock brakes and rack and pinion steering. As I always say, "you drive these old cars". You don't follow close and you don't make quick turns.
Welcome to CO. It is quite a difference. I still have the original brakes on my '46 and when out for a drive the other day it stuck on high idle! I had to really stand on the pedal to hold it back until I could get to a safe spot and correct the issue.
Thanks for the replies. I thought that I saw a master cylinder with a vacuum assist somewhere, but can't seem to find anybody in my part of the world (Ontario, Canada) that knows anything about it.
I don't remember that the brakes required this much pressure before, but I was a lot younger then!
