Hey everyone, I would like to thank you for letting me become part of the family. I purchased a numbers matching 71 442 convertible (viking blue and white) in 04 and spent a year bagging and tagging, a year restoring the frame while the body spent a year and a half at the resto shop. The entire car was reskined with NOS quarters, door skins. I'm about 90% complete with the interior and top left. My question is has anyone installed a new glove box liner and if so does it go in from under the dash or thru the glove box hole? The one I ordered is already stapled at the cornors and can be some what folded.

I think they were supposed to go in from the back. Welcome to CO.

 

Most cars that I have worked on require you to fold/squash them and insert them from the front. If you are careful, they won't get damaged too badly. Not the most ingenius engineering!

 

I put mine in from the front, the originals do have more folds to be able to collapse them down to fit through the opening.
I just looked at mine and it looks like there isn't room to get it in from the bottom with the heater box in the way? The manual just says to remove the door, striker and attaching screws then remove the glove box. Nothing about taking it out in any special way so my vote says the front, worked for me anyway.

 

They did not spend a whole lot of time thinking the install of the glove box. Even my 57 has to be squished thru the front. Guess they never thought anyone would ever have to replace it.

 

I purchased this numbers matching from a previous owner that cloned it into a H/O. The intire gut has to switched over from black to pearl. The body work and drive train is complete. I have the body pics on my work computer, I'll try to post some later. [ATTACH]

So what color is the interior / top going to be.

 

White top with pearl interior.

 

That is what I thought for the top. It will look really sweet when she is all done

Thanks for the welcome. I just got done with the most difficult part of the entire restoration which was installing the dash. I will be testing the electrical system as soon as I get done installing the convertible hydraulics and the steering column.

 

Very nice work, something to be proud of. Like your shop would almost kill for a shop.
