Been working with cars for some time now but I'm new to Olds. I just got a '61 Dynamic 88. Me and my buddies build flatheads and race at El Mirage and Bonneville- look for the Bean Bandits camp. Welcome to the forum only flathead I ever own was in a 47 plymouth sd and was a 6 but always have admired them for the stepping stones to the modern V8.

I always liked the lines on the '61 Oldsmobiles, all of them. Oldsmobile just did something really right that year, especially the smaller cars.

Looks like that truck is slammed all the way down, air bags? Z'd frame? I like those extensions on the fenders and the bumper valance in the rear. I bet you visit the HAMB.

 

Thanks for looking. Yeah, the truck is bagged, z'd, chopped 3.5 inches, '39 Zephyr rear fenders, '37 headlights, 400/350 turbo combo (I know, I wish it still had a flatty in it). It was built by Skott Randell and we got it for Independent Truck Company's (skateboard trucks) 30th anniversary last year. We'll be auctioning it off this Nov. with some of the proceeds going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. And yeah, I visit the HAMB every now and then, but it's a bit to cliquish for me.

 

I get the same impression. But still, lots of cool ideas, and lots of talent over there. Boy are they HUGE though.....

 

Yes, they did! After years and years of ever more fins and chrome, the '61s were much more conservative and cleaner looking in their styling. It was about as dramatic a change in look, at least to me, as when the "great downsizing" occurred between the '76 and '77 large GM cars.
