Rebuilding my Dad's 65 Delta 88 with my boys. It was sitting in a pole barn for 30 years. The engine is now seized. We filled the spark plug holes with Marvel Mystery Oil. Sitting a week but can't turn the engine over manually. Any other suggestions to get the engine loose? Thanks, Brian

 

How are you trying to turn it over manually? I assume you have removed all the belts? I had a 330 that was seized tighter than you could imagine. It took me two weeks working with the fly wheel to get it to break free. I used a piece of metal pipe and a large hammer. Positioned it on the fly wheel teeth and went to town. Tried not working the same tooth. I would hit it one direction then the other. Kind of like working it back and forth....it didn't move at all for about a week working on it every night for an hour or so. Eventually, it moved just a hair....then more and then more. Once I got it to move about 1/2 inch I then started working it from the front with a socket and breaker bar. Slowly rocking back and forth. After about two weeks I was able to get it to rotate completely around. Kept on lubing through spark plug holes. Once it rotated reasonably smooth...then I used the starter. Remember with the plugs out and when it does turn over that oil will go all over the place. I sold the car about a month later as a running driving parts car.

 

I suggest removing the 425 for disassembly even if you get it moving chances are it will not run well....

 

X2 on tear down. You can pour some 50/50 acetone and transmission oil mix into the cylinders. The acetone works as a wicking agent.

 

x2 on the Acetone+Trans Oil

 

50% Acetone/50% ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid)

 

This worked for me. My 394 was locked up carb was full of water and a little in the intake, trans and acetone in the plug holes for a 2-3 weeks broke free runs like a champ. No tear down.. you have a 50/50 chance on it running good or not

 

Find out what is siezed first. Could be spun bearings. Or, if its rusted cylinders from 30 yrs ago, the rings arnt going to seal anyways.
You can get a camera to put in the spark plug hole for damage. It connects to your phone for viewing.

 

I'm assuming that the engine was not seized when it was put into storage. The advice you have, including the camera are good ones, but you will likely have to ultimately do a tear-down to get it back to a "good" engine. .

 

Thanks for the advice. We have trying to turn the crank craft with belts off but nothing with 4 foot cheater bars. We will try acetone and trans fluid next. Likely will need to pull the engine out. It's good experience for my boys, anyway. Thanks again

Just want to add that even if you do get it to turn over I would not try to start it. If it is that hard to turn over there is probably some serious rust in the cylinders and starting it will just cause more damage and possibly make it unrepairable. I would just figure on pulling it out and tearing it down.

Either way, you will have to pull the trans from the torque converter. If you can't spin the engine, it will be impossible to remove
the converter bolts.
