New 1968 442 owner

hey Everybody, I started posting here in advance of acquiring my 1968 442. Ive learned a lot already from your replies to my questions. Thank you. I just got my car a few weeks ago.
I owned a 1968 Cutlass from 81-86. It was my first car. I had to give it up and always said I’d like to get another one, but this time the 442 version.
Finally 32 years later I had garage space and the finances to buy one. I started shopping Classic Car dealerships. Everyone of them asks 10K over what the car is really worth. I had one dealer presenting a car in photos and video as a show quality car. After sending out an inspection service, the car wasn’t even close to acceptable. It’s easy to be seduced by a shiny new paint job. It covers a lot of mess.
So I decided to buy from private sellers. I found one in North Carolina for a low price that needs work but has very little rust and is solid mechanically. This time, I went there to look it over andvtest drive it. Sold! I’m very happy and already love this car. I’m gonna invest in restoring it in the next few years.
So you’ll see me asking more questions in this forum and I thank you all for your informative advice. -Billy

Nice 68', that's one of my favorite Oldsmobiles ever. Standard or automatic?

SAAAAWEET. Black, black, no vinyl top, red wells, with the correct W36. If I had to pick one color combo this is it!
Stick or Auto? Original drivetrain?
By no means, I'm I picking your car apart just passing along info....suggestions...when you do restore it (doesnt look like it needs it) and if you do re-chrome the front bumper, have the license plate bracket holes welded shut and lose the plate and bracket. The 68s look cleaner sans the plate. My state requires a front plate but who cares. Mine never had it as it was Z code California car. Im not drilling the holes to appease my states goonie squad.
It could just be the angle of the pic but it looks like the 442 grill emblem is one step too high?
Many dedicated 68 one-year-wonder owners here including me. Pick our brains.

Yeah a few things need to be fixed. I’m gonna be working on that. It’s an automatic. Not original drive train. I’m still learning a lot about the car. As cool as the black looks, my color is Scarlet red. It’s going to transform this winter.

This color is 92 Ford Color called Fleet Red. Deep red that wakes up in sunlight.
