Good afternoon to all. I'm new to this classic Olds group and never was a member to a forum before. I apologize in advance for not posting something properly etc. Anyways, I have a 1977 Cutlass Salon with a 403 and TH350 trans. My father ordered the car in 1976 and was built in June of 1977. Shortly after, my father took delivery. He drove it as his daily till 1993. That year, my foot went through the floor panel getting out of it at an amusement park, sad I know. I was 7 years old. He put the car on blocks in his garage and stored it till March of this year. I took possession of the car as a birthday gift and towed it to another location. My father and I worked on it over the weekends and a month later in mid April, she came alive once again. I know she needs work, but I not only have a numbers matching car, I have my father's car.

Thank you to everyone who has read my story and cared to respond. Means a lot . I'm trying to learn more about it from my father and others since I'm not familiar with older cars, I just love the older cars.

 

That's what I'm hearing about the 403 equipped cars. My dad was pissed when it didn't come with the TH400 he ordered it with.

 

You can always changed it over to a TH400. How is the interior?

 

Interior is ok. Its not totally torn up or anything, but definitely needs to be reupholstered. The panels on the doors and dash are ok for being original and 41 years old. Carpet needs to be replaced. After reading about the TH350 and 400's, I rather keep the 350 and upgrade the parts and have a shift kit in it. If I change out the TH350, it will be for a 4 spd auto like a 700R4. However I hear that those are not the greatest.

 

@76olds. You wanted updates. Since I posted this original thread, she now has Hooker longtube headers with 2.5" collectors and a true duel exhaust all the way back. I have Super 44 Flowmasters and then chrome tips on the stock 30 degree angle out the back. Back in May, I installed a duel hump x member to allow this objective to be completed. This is one of the best sounding cars I've ever owned now.

 

I'm sure it sounds much better, I have the flowmaster super 44's with hedman short headers. My wife can hear me coming home from 3 blocks away. You planning to just keepin er' tame or? Slowly waking up the beast of a 403 ! Have you given any thought to rear gears haha?

@76 olds. I want to have the engine rebuilt when the funds become available. Hopefully just a hone job. Then port and polish the heads, change the pistons to achieve 9.5:1 compression, 280 Comp cam, Performer (non EGR) manifold, Holly 650 electric choke, upgraded components and shift kit in the TH350, 2600 stall Torque converter, and my dad already installed a 3.42 gear back about 1986. I might go to a 3.55 but not sure that would be that significant. She already has the Hooker LT's and Flowmaster Super 44's.
