1968 442 New Home

I joined this forum to research a purchase at least two years from when I joined. I wanted to make sure my garage was ready and my financial situation was as ready. I opened up the “For Sale” forum page and only one post jumped out at me. Long story short I’m a proud owner of a 1968 442. The member lives in Tennessee so I took a mild 10 hour drive to visit the car. It’s really interesting when you can receive all the pictures and videos you want but to see and hear the car in person is so different.
The forum member “Jeff” was simply a great guy. We talked over email a number of times and when we met the conversation was just as comfortable.
His depth of knowledge for Olds and cars was great. He told me everything about the build of the car.

The car is now living in N. Virginia.

Jeff is a great guy. I was sorry to see him sell this car but I'm glad it went to someone who obviously spent a lot of time researching the purchase. I've never seen the car in person but I know how much effort went into the restoration.

BTW....I also have a 68 442 and a "Frisbee K9". Her name is Lacey and she's completely obsessed with retrieving them

Mike,
Jeff is a tremendous guy. He gave me the history and breakdown of the whole restoration. He warned me seeing the car in person isn’t like seeing the car in pictures and video. It’s fantastic for a “#3 driver”, which is exactly what I was looking for.

Lacy is adorable! She loves frisbee. I had a Labrador who because the Virginia State Champion Frisbee dog back in 1984. I’ve had two additional frisbee dogs since. I think it’s a great excercise for both the owner and the dog.
I wonder if there’s something to 1968 442 and Frisbee Dogs...

Congrats on your new acquisition... It's good to hear that this site was a help in you finding your 68 442... It may not be the 70 442 you were initially looking for, but I'm sure you will be happy with your choice of the 68...

Welcome. Many 68 owners here including me. Is that Teal Frost Poly code F, or L code Teal Blue Poly or a custom color?? 4 speed or auto?
Here is a few pics of my current 68 with SS1s and SS2s. The vert is Mikes.

Beautiful ‘68’s there, cool to see both ‘68 convertible and hard top side by side. I like both sets of wheels. This car is an automatic on the column with a bench seat. As for the color I think it’s a sapphire blue but I don’t teally know. The builder installed a 455ci touched .60 over. Runs perfectly.

Great '68. I just took plunge on one earlier this year too. I can't believe I've overlooked these for so many years, they're awesome cars.

Nice ride K9. Those '68 factory rims are the best ever produced IMO. I put some on my'65 442 back in the day.

May your miles be many and full of tire smoke...

Very nice car Guy. Congrats!

On a side note, I've used McCollisters a couple times now. They do good work!

Best,
Dave

Your car appears to have originally had a W36 stripe. Note the location of the 442 fender numerals.

Not! Approximate distance from #2 to door...two fingers for W36.

The OP's car is not a W36 vehicle. Ask Mr. P.

I was not talking about the OP's car. I was referencing Ben442's WHITE car picture. Look again.
