1953 olds 5.0 rocket crank pulley
Helping bro with 53 olds 98 with 5.0 rocket. Crankshaft pulley has what seems to be a rubber seal on pulley behind belts, same diameter as pulley. Anyone know what this is and how to replace?

That is the vibration damper. It is needed. The pulleys and the damper are to together.
The damper has the timing marks.
You will need to take the center bolt off with an impact gun.
Also a 3 jaw puller, to take the damper assy off.

Welcome aboard. If original to the car the balancer should be replaced. If it isn't giving you grief now it will down the road.I use Damper Doctor to rebuild mine and they did a great job.... Tedd..... http://damperdoctor.com/index.php?ro...mation/contact
