what's it worth?

what's it worth?
Have a opportunity to get a 72 cutlass "S" fastback, with what I think is a 350 rocket in it. Interior is perfect (white), body is straight as a arrow, except for the grille.
Only problem its sitting on 4 flat tires and hasn't moved in 23 years. I'm new to these cars and don't really know what its worth or what to offer the little old lady for it.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Well, welcome to our site! Sounds like a nice car and a good opportunity... sad that it has sat all this time! Does she really want to get rid of it, or does she know what she has there? I'm sure the guys will let you know what to offer.

I don't know if a fastback is a coupe or a hardtop. The Old Cars Price Guide puts the value of a #4 condition 1972 Cutlass S 2-door coupe at $2400 and a 2-door hardtop at $3400. #4 condition means good running condition but needs restoration. In #3 condition, which means a "20-footer" and is what you typically see at car shows (not showroom condition), the values are $5400 for the coupe and $7600 for the hardtop.
The four flat tires are easily cured, but the fact that it hasn't moved in 23 years can means lots of things. Can you find out if it runs before you buy it, or does she want it sold as is? The less good it is when you buy it, the less it's worth. Offer her 2 grand and see what happens.

All F-85s, Cutlasses, Cutlass S's, and Cutlass Supremes for 1972 could have been had with two versions of the 350, 160 or 180 HP, or two versions of the 455, 270 or 300 HP.
The Old Cars Price Guide doesn't make a distinction among engine choices when assigning values, only series and body style. I've wondered why they don't figure engine choice in value, as it seems like it could make a significant difference (20%? 30%?). But they don't.

As difficult as it is to assign values to cars in general, trying to do so to a parts car has to be even more difficult. It depends on what particular parts the car still has on it and what condition they're in.
