The 200-4R requires some work to install, but the O.D. is nice to have. It too is marginal strengthwise in stock form behind a 350 Olds motor.

Frankly, TH350s are a dime a dozen. Just get the easy replacement trans.

I moved your post to it's own thread, since it really wasn't related to a thread from 2013 about a 1971 Cutlass.

EVERY Olds V8 from 1964-1990 uses the same BOP bellhousing bolt pattern. ANY transmission that has that bolt pattern bolts up. The TH350s came in three case designs, Chevy-only, BOP-only, and multi-pattern. The Chevy-only does not bolt up, the other two do.

Also keep in mind the fact that the TH350 came in three different tailhousing lengths. You need the one that matches your car (usually the short tail for A/G body cars). Also be aware that depending on the trans you are replacing, the crossmember in your car may need to be changed, since the 1980s cars (both G-body and B/C-body) used two different crossmembers, one for the TH200 and one for the 200-4R. They do NOT interchange and unlike the older cars, you cannot simply slide the crossmember rearwards due to the design of the frame. The TH350 uses the TH200 crossmember. The TH400 uses the 200-4R crossmember.
