I bought a '64 Cutlass convertible online , so I thought till an inspection from a third party mechanic in that state told me that
the VIN belongs to a '64 Dynamic. He described it as a Cutlass clone, I've obviously heard of 442 clones but never a run
of the mill Cutlass clone. My generic question for you more experienced Olds heads is how do I search for parts for this ?
ie. I'd love to eventually find a vented hood that I'm guessing were only found on 442 trim. I think I answered my own
question , if the car's exterior is all Cutlass then a Cutlass 442 hood will line up right. But not to prolong the obvious, are
Cutlass panels and interior interchangeable with the Dynamic model ? I am anxiously waiting for delivery from the
dealership that had it as a consignment.
In the pictures the drivers door frame is missing the VIN tag.
The engine is not really desirable. For what it is, its not a bad looking car with a few negatives. How much was it, I clicked on the calculator and it said $23900?
There is some sort of a plate in the door frame.
Running the VIN does denote it as a Dynamic 88 if the number on website is correct.
That car is a Cutlass convertible, as evidenced by the 3267 cowl tag. The VIN for that car MUST start with 824.... If that's not a typo and the VIN on the website does in fact represent the VIN plate on the car, that VIN plate has been swapped. Report them to the cops for selling a stolen car and get your money back. The smog-era Chevy 305 is not helping that car any. There's a lot of sketchy workmanship on that car.
The hardware store grade zero eyebolt for the e-brake cable guide, for example.
The kink in the brake line going into the combo valve is another example. That appears to be a G-body master cylinder. No idea if the bore is correct for the brakes on this car or not.
I'm not sure what the goop is on the bottom of the floorpans. Is that covering up holes, or what? Creative trans cooler line routing.
Looks like a home-made trans crossmember. The e-brake cables will be vibrating annoyingly on the exhaust pipes.
Well , thank you all for the input, strangely I had a VIN mismatch happen to me when I looked at another Cutlass 442 clone that was local to
me couple weeks before I found this one. I suppose it's common for these clones but again I was just really thrown by the VIN on the door
jam - 844M203994 as being a Dynamic VIN. So being familiar with the industry of insurance investigations I have a former work
associate looking into the real skinny of the VIN discrepancy, stay tuned . . . .

6961 - Regardless of how you feel about the car and/or the comments shared here in this thread, DO NOT IGNORE Joe's statement about a swapped VIN. Your mechanic friend's comment about a "Cutlass clone" is nonsense. Verify what VIN tag is on the car and what is on the current title. If not a Cutlass VIN, notify law enforcement and get your money back. This is highly illegal and will be a nightmare for you if you accept the car as is.

Having a Cutlass VIN on a 442 clone is common. They are both A-body platforms and are basically the same car with a different engine. In fact, in the 1964 model year, the 442 was only an option package. All 1964 442s came from the factory with either an F85 or Cutlass VIN.
Having a VIN from a full size car like a Dynamic on an intermediate like a Cutlass or 442 is not only NOT common, it is illegal. These are completely different vehicles that share nothing other than the Oldsmobile nameplate. Run, don't walk, away.

The fact that the VIN plate is missing in the door frame is TRUE stolen beat trashed whatever. THERE IS NO VIN WHERE IT IS SUPOSED TO BE!!!! Can't fake that.
You already put down your money. Keep it and sue the seller for your cost. Sketchy like a sob. You keep the car. Get your money back for a chump playing you. I would take that. It is not your fault for not knowing that it should have the vin in the door. They scammed you. Judge Judy would agree
