Give us all the numbers. Part # and date code. Someone will be able to decode.

Carb, Intake, Block, Distributor,

Is there a number stamped on the oil fill tube? I think that may give a clue but not sure.

Does the sticker on the valve cover tell you anything specific?

Hi Bob

The block at the front has huge cast in number 395558. 2

The sticker on the valve cover doesn't have any hints, but it does make reference to the Oshawa plant:-)

The carb and intake are the original W31 items, there is an intake in the trunk that would have come with the extra engine, I will check it and post pictures. The distributor is HEI so it could be from anything modern?

How can I get a better look at the stamp? I don't want to hurt the stamp!

Why yes there is a good way to check the stamp , if your talking about the block stamp that is ..... I can't remember if it was oil , solvent , or just plain water , but when you rub that on there the numbers on the stamp stand right out and are very readable then .... along with a flashlight and little dental mirror .

I tried rubbing a pencil on the stamp and then Cleaning off the pad but still can't see it very well?

Best I can see is 391113266

From what Google tells me......
3 =Oldsmobile
9= 1969
1 = Oshawa I assume this is the same as Chevelle's?
113266 = sequential vin number of the car it came out of

I still need to find a better way to see the stamp to confirm the number

Take a picture of it with your cell phone. It will be more legible in the photo than it is to the unaided eye.

Ryan I don't know if this will help you but take a look at the oil fill tube and see if there is a number stamping that matches the ones on this list.

Are you sure that it is not 39M13266? If a W31 it must be "M" for a Lansing built car.

Excellent point, this is an extra engine purchased in Hamilton Ontario by Al and his daughter to start bringing the car back to life, the warranty engine is on the garage floor, please check out my thread on the Yenko.net forum, I have been most dilegent at keeping it up to date. (No offence ClassicOldsmobile) just been on there for a good while and have met lots of the guys there as well!

I am catching on to the picture posting path here but still can only get one to post at a time?

I didn't realize that the original motor was gone, so the "M" for W31 in the vin derivative, would not apply, the 1111930 dist is correct for your car, but also for the 310hp/350 engine.

I would just shrink the photo online , and then hit manage attachments when your posting , you can add 4 or 5 photos per post . I would click on each one and copy and paste it to the post from the link to make the picture bigger . It's been a while since I posted a pic , I think I got it right

I got the number stamped on the oil filer tube.

9463172

From the chart Bob sent me the 9 should indicate 1969 and 463172 should indicate which olds engine it is, but I don't see this number on the chart?

You have the same Radiator as El Malo. FE. The part # should be 3014745.

V02 option with the 3:42 gear.

Al and I had a great visit after work today!

We transferred the ownership at the MTO, and I was able to keep the ownership document from Feb 2nd 1973, I was also able to pay tax on her

I purchased the used car package, which is like an Ontario ownership history.....it has Al's name on it.....exciting history eh!!!

We talked about the radio, as it doesn't show up on the GM VVS docs, he doesn't remember anything specific about it other than it may have been a little bit of an issue....but on the original bill of sale from (Ayr) County Garage it shows W63 Radio $88.60, and (no RPO code) Rear antenna $10.90 The antenna is on the right passenger front fender?
Al said they may have given him a case of beer for whatever mistake was made, but he just wanted his fast car as soon as possible.

another discrepancy i need to iron our is the rear end gears, Al says they are 3.91:1 and the BOS says G80 3.91:1 ratio, positration, $49.10 the GM VVS docs say G80 positration, and G92 3.42 ratio heavy duty...........TBD

Al and I then went to Tim Hortons and had a great chat, for about an hour......the car was not even mentioned once Kids, grandkids, work, family, you name it.

Ryan,

Your radiator being a FE tells me you have a 3:42 ratio rear.
