My 455 has 440,000 miles on it, would a rebuild even be worth it and what would be the price range for that?

Welcome to the site, your question is basically the same as me asking you how much it would cost for you to build me a house with no other details. Your rebuild cost will be based on what the engine needs as far as machine work and parts. 440k miles is quite the accomplishment with no past rebuilds.

Thanks I'm glad to have found this website and thanks for the reply, I've had this car for only a couple months and had no problems with it till recently I even drove it 90 miles to the beach and back and it ran perfect, it has an exhaust leak and needs a new air filter and maybe a new carburetor, but most things in rebuild would be minor this car has 3 unoriginal parts and the only thing redone is the roof in the interior. I would like to keep this car as long as possible even if it sat until I had the money to fix it, sorry for the mouthful

3,500 would be about my limit I know since there have been no rebuilds and few replacements it might need more work than I am aware of but all of it would be worth it to me if I got it to run smoothe with only regular maintenance and the occasional minor or even somewhat major fix

So your engine has never been opened up in 440k miles? I truly find that hard to believe. I'd budget $4-5k for a simple rebuild at a machine shop to include new fluids, belts, engine mounts, and all new tuneup parts if you remove and install it yourself.

My curiosity is up. If you have only had it a few months, how do you know it has 440,000 miles?
You never know how much a rebuild costs until the engine is apart. All internal moving parts must be measured.
Have you ran any diagnostic engine tests?

That's all the records I have of it, but you're pros back right and thanks I'll have to think about it

It was my uncles previously and he told me that it is the original mileage so as far as I know it is, and I'm going to do that this Thursday

440,000 miles is highly unlikely, but I suppose not impossible.

Regardless, if there's nothing wrong with it, I'd tune it up and run it - you don't rebuild an engine without a reason.

Welcome to ClassicOlds.

Maybe its just 44,000 miles? The last number to the right, usually white is 10'ths. That would make more sence. Anythings possible, just sayin.
Good luck
