Welcome to the site! There's another member here recently asking for this part. I was looking at my clutter and found two 1968 Cutlass core supports that the previous owner had wrapped a chain around the bottom of the radiator support to pull the car. Yes, it bent things on both of them. If nobody comes up with a straight one I can send you photos so you can see if it's something you want to mess with.

are you talking about the core support or the release lever setup that the hood closes onto.

Be aware that there are two different hood release mechanism designs for 1968, the first design with a paddle and the second design with a loop that you pull.

i would guess either the paddle or loop pull would work? one of these is the part i need. it attaches to the core support you push the paddle or pull the lever and the hood releases. 2blue442 send me pics thanks.

restoman442, here's one of the paddle style. It was stiff when I removed it, but I've been soaking it down in Kroil and now it seems to work OK. I should have the other 2 bolts that hold it to the core support on top, I just misplaced them. The rod has a bend in it... I think it should be straight. I also believe that the paddle pulls down on the rod to release the hood, so once straightened I don't think there will be any stress to bend it again. Check out the photos and let me know what you think. I would like $25 plus shipping for it. If that works for you then send me a PM (private message) or email with your address and I'll get the shipping costs for you. John

newbie

Hi guys, Im new here and couldnt help but to drop a few lines. I recently sold my 68 Cutlass "S" Convertible project (sold it as a stripped roller) and then most of the parts I had bought or collected on ebay. I just lost passion for car restoration and sold all my projects (70' Chevell, 69' Camaro and 68' Cutlass). I did keep the Cutlass fenders (2x68' and 2x69'), doors and core support because I felt I could find a good home for them. I'm not seeing the parts on ebay nearly as much as I did 5-10 years ago. Is that because people arent restoring them anymore or are they just simply getting harder to find? Im doing a minor restore to the core support, typical enlarged holes in the mount area and very minor battery acid rot. The doors are good, very minor rust repair needed and the fenders are typical, standard rust areas (2 of them have been partially repaired, not sure i want to repair them without a car to mount them on). Well, shoot some advice or comments my way. I have a great appreciation for anybody who restores a 68-69 Cutlass, parts are just so hard to find (especially sheetmetal).

yes Marko they're hard to come by for parts just have to hunt for them and that's some of the fun of it. Also to educate ourselves on these cars.

The early cars had paddles that lift upward and later cars had wire loops that you pull...

Yes I received your payment, and sorry I hadn't contacted you to confirm that. Due to my work schedule I usually have to wait until Friday or sometimes Saturday morning to get to the post office. I'll send you an email as soon as it's on its way. John
