Old But Not So Newbie

Way back in my college days (AKA 1974), I bought my very first car, a 1966 Olds 442 that was red with a black vinyl top, had the 400 engine, the Hurst shifter 4 speed and I only paid $500 for it. It was so fast that it could pass anything but a gas station. 12 MPG freeway and 6 around town. With gas prices going up (~$1.50), I just couldn't afford to keep it. I sold it for $250 and I am still kicking myself for not keeping it.

Anyway, that was then... I just bought another 66 442, but this time it is a convertible. When the car arrives in a couple of weeks, I'll post some pics. It needs a lot of work so I have been lurking on the forum for information on how fix it up right. So I decided to join. Of course, the Nationals were going on and I tried to join a couple of times but no one was at home, but now I'm a member.

I'm located in San Jose, California if anyone is interested.

Welcome, I had a 67 442 in high school days, likewise with the gas station. I worked a gas station back in the early 70's and I remenber everyone saying they were going to quit driving when gas hit if I remember correctly $1.00. I got my 442 from an older brother who abused the heck out of it trying to beat the neighbor guy who had a 66 442. ( both were faster than the local GTO and Chebbys) Enjoy your car.

Welcome to Classic Olds.
It looks to be a very good project. Good luck with it.
