Hey all, I have a 72 Cutlass Supreme (K) with a annoying engine knock that seems to come and go from one day to the other, usually the noise is noticeable after warm up when car is downshifting back into 1st gear or when in park or neutral. Hopefully i can get the money soon to get the 350 rebuilt or the 455 i have tucked in the corner of my Moms garage out of a 68 Toronado I use to own. I may be interested in selling the 455 in the near future , but have not decided what motor to put in if or when i can afford it. I also in need of a decent rear bumper , 442 or regular, storage is also becoming a problem because of crazy neighbor by my moms house

Welcome to CO. It would probably be more convenient to rebuild the 455 while driving the car with the 350 in it but you would probably have to get a TH400 transmission to handle the extra torque from the big block. If you don't need to drive the car daily then pull the 350 and rebuild it, selling the 455 for extra cash to finance the rebuild. Although I favor the big blocks, the 350 is more than sufficient to give you good performance and satisfaction in your Cutlass. Good luck whichever direction you chose.

Welcome to CO - from a Buckeye!!
My 2 cents worth suggestion -- build the 455, get a 200-4R OD trans. you will love the combination. If you dont plan on hammering it all the time -- your turbo 350 will work just fine with a smaller stall converter (1800).
Hope you enjoy the site and your 72!!

Welcome to CO! Good luck on your choice of engines, and with the crappy neighbor, also. Been there, and still have one, two doors down. Be so glad when she sells out and gets outta' Dodge!!!

cars ive had worth mentioning
72 Cutlass Supreme
67 Cutlass 4dr hard top
68 Roadrunner

Thanks for the warm welcome, will get some pictures real soon , as far as the 455 goes , I was told that this particular motor had 400 HP stock , I figured if I had it rebuilt and wanted a better cam or pistons that I would have to get a different Transmission and radiator(Toronado radiator to big to fit in Cutlass) and motor mounts and heavy duty shocks and springs and of course replace the one wheel wonder rear axle to posi. With that kind of HP or greater , wouldnt I need some kind of frame reinforcement so it wont bend or twist under high torque? How much power does it take to have to reinforce frame.......almost forgot..........Im very happy you guys let me onboard , you all seem real nice and have some of the most beautiful cars i had ever seen!
