Newbie from WV
Happy New Year! The year of 2010 found me buying a 19,000 mile, 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass 4 door hardtop that is an all original time capsule that saw many years of love by it first owners until it entered my life on Nov. 15. I begin my task of now carrying on that love affair with what I consider a rare GM car in Sienna. I learned to drive on a 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle 4 door hardtop that my parents bought new, so the similarity of owning this Olds makes the car even more dear to my heart.
I have only owned one other Oldsmobile in my years of driving, and that was a 45,000 mile 1968 Olds Delmont 88 convertible in 1987. It was a short ownership, as the car needed more care than I could give it. One year later, I moved on to a one owner 1966 Buick Riviera GS with 59,000 miles which I still have nearly 23 years later. Currently, I own a '66 Buick Electra convertible, a '71 Cadillac Coupe Deville with 55,000 miles, and a 1984 Riviera with 34,000 miles in addition to the Sienna '71 Cutlass.
I hope to interact with '71 Cutlass owners here especially those with the more uncommon '71 Cutlass Supreme 4 door hardtop sedan owners. Are you guys out there somewhere????
Regards,
Barry

Welcome to the site Barry! Sounds like a cool car! Please post pictures when you have time. There's several 4 door owners here, I'm only picturing one 4 door hardtop though. But if you start posting messages they'll probably come out of the woodwork

John,
How's the weather in Oregon? We had an unusual warm day here today reaching middle 60's. I have added some more photos in a photo album in my profile section which you can view of the car. I still need to detail the engine compartment, and do some cleaning under the hood. The car was part of an estate. The person handling the sale for the estate removed plastic that was covering the floor carpet. I have to assume perhaps that was not removed from the factory. The original Sienna rubber Olds color coordinated floor mats did not survive the time. They became brittle and cracked apart. I believe they were stored in the garage rolled up, and may have been treated with a cleaner that caused them to deteriorate. I guess I will have to order some black reproduction floor mats![Frown](https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Thanks for responding to my introduction...post some photos of your cars. I will check out your profile photo albums to see the cars too.

Larry,
Thanks for the comment on the car. I always liked the Cutlass Supreme Coupes and the convertibles. Keep enjoying it as you work on it...there appears to more of a parts supply out there for A Body convertibles and coupes. I noticed someone offering a 1972 Cutlass Convertible in the Pittsburgh area Craigslist ads. No photos, but I think they were asking $2500. Does Trappe, MD get a lot of snow?

Yes, Morgantown continues to grow, but the road systems do not
I have lived here 45 years in the same area of Morgantown. I have seen improvements, but also sad to see some of the old landmarks/shops disappear. Even my junking spots looking for car parts have really dwindled in WV, PA, MD that I use to frequent often. I just enjoyed getting away from Morgantown, and out in the yards to discover the works of art in the salvage yards that now are all closed, or turned into residential areas. I guess that is one of the reasons why I get so much enjoyment watching American Pickers on the History Channel as Mike & Frank go exploring through the yards of cars/parts.

Cool Car! I've always liked that sienna color. Been through W VA many times as my mother is from Davy, W VA...I love it there but she hates it and never wants to go back....and more props to Mike/Frank...those guys rock! I would love to have that job...they just picked up a 1 owner Fairlane GT 390/4 speed in a recent episode...anyway, welcome to the site and have fun with the Cutlass!

Not usally but last year saw about sixty inches but most years a total of 6-12. Schools shut down at 1 to 2 inches. As you can imagine last year schools were shut for about 17 days.
The orginal color of my car was sienna brown with a saddle top.

You have a beautiful car. Not sure if you saw it, but a few weeks ago Old Cars Weekly featured a car very similar to yours (a '70, in this case) as its Car of the Week. It looks very much like yours.

jaunty75,
Thanks for the link on the Olds Car Weekly article on the '70. I love the looks of the Olds Ralley Wheels on the car. I would like to start my search for a set of these wheels, but it sounds like there were changes somewhere in the '70-80's range. Does anyone know how to determine which ones of the 14" wheels are correct for 1971? I want to replace the original 1971 tires with new 14" white wall tires, and it would be great to find a set of correct ralley rims to upgrade from the wheel cover original to the car when I put new tires on the car.
Thanks.

Hi Barry
There were two possibilites of rally wheels that would be correct for your car. The SSI's which look somewhat like the Magnum 500 wheels used by other car manufactures or the SSII's which are often painted the color of the body. Here's a set for sale that would be correct for your car if you wanted SSII's. John

SSII will change the whole personality of a Holiday Sedan from sedate to sporty.
You need the 68-74 style with bolted-on center caps to be year-correct, but with limited availability of large 14" tires, you may want to think about the 75-later snap-in center style which are easily found in 15x7 size.
With Sienna, I think I'd stick with Argent Silver ones. Body color SSIII might be a little too much Sienna.

Hi Barry and welcome to the site. I am fairly new to this site as well and I moved to Bridgeport from Texas in November and let me tell you it has been a bit of a weather shocker. One thing's for sure what little gas mileage I got out of my cutlass in Texas has surely gotten worse living in the hills of WV. Beautiful state though.

rkk69olds,
I magine coming from TX, the weather here in WV is quite a shock. So far it has been mild this year compared to tons of snow last year. However, some years I am able to get the cars out for a drive on Christmas Day or New Years. I just make sure it is dry, so that the salt doesn't attack the cars. Unfortunately, this year I did not get my wish! Welcome to the site as well. Perhaps we will bump into each other in the car show/cruises this coming car season. What color is your '69 Cutlass?

jamesbo,
She is part Golden Retriever, and I think Border Collie. I adopted her from an animal shelter when she was around 2-2.5 years old. She is now pushing 13-14 years old. Her name was adapted from the car I went to go pick her up in. I was driving a 1984 Riviera at the time, so her name became Riviera or "Rivie" for short. She loves to ride in cars in the passenger seat, but hates for you to start or move cars if she is not inside it to go with you.

jaunty75,
Hey, what do you know? A low mileage Cutlass 4 door hardtop popped up on eBay this week. It too is a '70 like the one you sent the link from the Old Cars Weekly article. Here is the link:

Nice to see these survivors pop up!

No question that's a nice-looking car with a very nice color scheme. I don't know if it had a reserve, but it doesn't now. The bidding is up to about $4,700 at the moment, which doesn't seem like too bad a price for a car in that condition with that low a mileage. If it ends up selling in this range, the buyer will have gotten a nice car for a good price.
