Hello Olds Fans.
I have a 1951 super 88 with a rocket 303 and i have a few concerns.
i have blow by coming back thru the oil fill tube and its bringing oil with it that gets blown all over by the fan.I am getting some blow by thru the vent tube but shouldnt all come out the vent tube? do these vent tubes become blocked and can they be cleaned out or replaced?Does any one sell these anymore . Thanks for reading this.

Welcome aboard. Good question, I've also seen this but I have never seen a vent tube(down draft) clogged to the point it would hold back pressure. Usually when there is that much blowby it's time for a freshen up ring and valve job.
It you don't have power brakes(and I don't think you do in a 51) you might try installing a PVC valve on the down draft opening at the back of the block and this will sometimes suck the oil vapors through the carb and take at least 1/2 or more of the smoke out of the picture. If you have power brakes this adaption bleeds of to much vacuum and makes your booster inoperative... Just a few thoughts ....Lost in the fifties...Tedd

Welcome to C.O. You might remove the lower breather tube and try washing it out in a parts washing machine.I have seen them get partially stopped up and force it out where you put the oil in,but like Tedd said ,that's usually a sign of rings that have lost their tension, and time for a rebuild. If it don't have air conditioner, they are easy to rebuild. We had a mechanic that could start on one at 7 AM.,replace the rings ,reface the valves, and drive it to go get his wife when she got off at 4PM. I've seen him do this more than once. Larry
