Welcome to the site. If you have never rebuilt a carb, buy a book it will help. I usually have a large clean area to disassemble the carb. They sell a gallon can with a strainer that you can soak the carb in then blow out the air passages with a compressor if you have one or carb cleaner. Make sure to adjust it according to the manual and be prepared to tune it at reinstall.

Welcome to CO. I think you should contact Danny Sarvis (70Wcars) and see if he would re-build your carb for you. I have done many carburetors in the past myself and finally had him do my last quadrajet. It was worth the money.

I applaud you for wanting to rebuild your own carb. Be aware that your 88 used the computer controlled Qjet. This carb has some unique features due to it's mixture control solenoid and throttle position sensor that require either special tools for setup or careful measurement during reassembly. Once assembled and installed on the engine, there is a specific adjustment process that must be followed to make it run right. The rebuilding and adjustment processes and values are detailed in the appropriate Chassis Service Manual for your car. Many folks who choose not to follow the factory adjustment process never get the carb to run right and end up throwing it away or paying someone else. The bottom line is that the CCC system works very well once it's properly set up, but it takes a little time to get it there.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your family Olds! . Rochester carbs are not difficult to do, so with a little patience, I'm sure you can do a good job rebuilding it. If you have any questions during the process, post them here and we can help you. Post pics too when you get a chance.
