A newbie says...

Hello and thanks !
I've been lurking for a while and want to say 'Thanks' for the info I've learned here. This site has been an invaluable resource!

I figured I'd better become 'legit' since I am beginning the complete restoration of my '68 Cutlass S convertible.
LSideSmClip.jpg

I am the 3rd owner...bought it back in the mid-80's. Its a numbers matching 350 4bbl w/ a JetAway, has several options & is still its original Provincial white w/ Garnet guts.

This was my daily driver for several years....until ~ 18 years ago. It was hit while parked, so I threw it in a barn with the idea that some day...some day I'd be able to resurrect it. Well, that time has come.

I hope to learn more & contribute what I can.....

Welcome aboard!! That's going to be a beautiful ride when your resto's done.I've always loved the 68 Cutlass/442 style. How's the engine, drivetrain and interior? Will you repaint in it's original colour? Keep us up-to-date[with pics]....Derek

Thanks !

Drivetrain is good. Car has 99K on it.

Engine runs great (considering it sat for 18 years). A couple of months ago, I decided to resurrect it. I pulled the plugs, shot some oil in the cyls & spun it by hand..easily. Checked points, changed the fluids, plugs, starter & batt and did some general cleaning/checking. I got out the 18yo gas best I could and added a few gals of fresh. Even with this nasty mix, it fired on the 2nd try. Now it fires instantly & idles nice. Trans works as it always has in all its 2 spd glory...!

Replaced master cyl & a rotted front-to-rear brakeline & took it for a spin...Ahhhhh!

Interior is complete, but worn. Its all coming out and staying dark red (garnet). I am ecstatic that Legendary Interiors (& others?) is now offering what seems to be the correct '68 dark red. '68 dark red was one of the forgotten colors for all of the repro co's for a long time... I need to study this more....

The plan is to keep it as close to factory as possible, although I might swap out the 350/JetAway combo for something else for drivability/fun, but stash it since it is original factory (no's matching) equip.

Should I start a new thread in another section ?

Gonna replace it & the other with a pair of decent used OEM ones I got out of OK years ago.
