Newbie from Salem, Oregon

Hi everyone. I recently picked up a 77 Delta 88 from the production company that films the show Grimm for NBC. It was featured in episode 403 on Nov. 7 this year. I got a great deal on it, and now I'm just trying to learn everything I can about it. It has what I believe is the Chevy 350 with a 4 barrel carb, and is the most comfortable ride I've ever owned! I'm sure I'll be posting quite a bit. Glad to be here!

Welcome to the site, nice find. I watch the show but can't recall the car. Post some pictures when you get a chance.

Welcome to the forum. I had both 77 and 78 98's years ago and they are great cars. A handling tip - many suspension parts from the 94 to 96 Chevy Impala SS and 9C1 police cars interchange, including aftermarket stuff...

Are you sure it is not a 350 or 403 Olds? Is there an oil fill tube or does it fill thru the valve cover?

Well, I know that its a 350. A buddy told me it was a Chevy, but I really didn't know for sure. Oil goes in through the valve cover.

It is a lot of car, but its actually smaller and has tighter handling than my other car, a 73 Chrysler Newport.

Its a chevy. The 77 Olds was the car that got GM in big trouble for calling a chevy engine a "Rocket", I think they were even sued.

Yeah, it was kinda crazy how they didnt think people would notice the difference. I'm cool with the Chevy motor though. They're easy to work on, and they seem to be fairly bullet proof. As a VERY novice gear head, that's important...

Absolutely, they really don't make them like they used to. I've found it a breath of fresh air compared to modern cars.

If you think that's a big car, compare it to a 76 delta or 98. The 77 year was a major downsize for all the big GM cars.

You're right, Don. I was referring to my Chrysler, which makes the Delta look like a midsize car.

fastest way to tell if it is a Chevy or an Olds is where is the oil fill? On the valve cover or a tube that sticks up at the front of the engine?

Welcome fellow Oregonian some great folks on here with lots of knowledge.
