Talking Newbie from PA

Hey everyone! Newbie from eastern PA. I'm a high school kid who bought a 1966 Starfire! Figured there is no better place than here for my quest in starfire parts Great to have so many Olds guys on one site.

Welcome, young'un! Always great to see a young guy get into an older car, and a Starfire is a nice car to have. 66 is modern enough to drive without a lot of parts problems or finding someone who understands it and can repair it. Plus it's just got a cool factor.

Car doesn't look too bad in the picture. Hope it's all there; Starfire trim can be ridiculously hard to find.

Starfire 425 and switch-pitch 400 still there? Is it a bucket seat/console car or Strato-bench/column shift? 66 could come either way, and one is about as cool as the other.

Look at Lucas' picture and you'll see this 66 has cornering lamps! There's always been some contention about whether any 66 SF were actually equipped with them or if only the ad picture cars had them. So based on this car, my vote says yes they were available on at least the Starfire in the B-body carline.

You'll learn what all these terms mean as you hang around!

When I had my Sfire it drove so fine I would forget I was driving and old car. Many body and mechanical and interior trim parts interchange with the other 88's and 98's in 1966 and some parts even with the 65's.

Welcome Lucas,we're glad to have another "Olds Guy" and exceptionally glad to have a "Young Olds Guy". If questions arise, fire away, you will get good advice here. X2 on Eric's (looks solid statement). (1) Make sure the brakes are in good shape, then you can worry about the the remainder. Larry

I'm glad to be here! What a great place... Ohhh yeah I'll have questions and I love learning more about Oldsmobiles! I just ordered a dual circuit master cylinder off a 68 cutlass I think from rock auto. Would that anger the purists ahha? I want dual circuit better safe than sorry, especially with an irreplaceable car. Not running, hasn't in 32 years. But we can change that

And yes all the starfire parts are there. All of the trim I believe, came with brand new rear bumper, original quadrajet getting rebuilt right now, stratobench, and that high compression baby! Just bought a 65 impala tank and sending unit as well as wheel cylinder. Wasn't happy with the rust in the tank and we did all the old trick, chain blah blah blah. Only was $2,000 and with minimal rust. Couldn't be any more happy. Do you guys get a lot of younger people joining?

Sounds like a great deal!

Things I can say at this point:

• You can rebuild a QuadraJet yourself, if you're patient and have a nice clean place to work without being disturbed.
You'll learn more if you do it yourself the next time, not to mention saving a few bucks.

• You need to get a genuine, original paper Chassis Service Manual and Fisher Body Manual.
It's good to have electronic versions, but the original paper ones are indispensable.
They're always on eBay, and you can usually find a good price if you watch.
Also, if you want to spend an extra $25 or so, you can join the Automotive History Preservation Society and download them all, along with a bunch of other stuff.

• Most of us would strongly recommend converting to a dual circuit master.
Just get one with the same piston bore size and you'll be fine.

I've been recommended some good paper manuals like the one you suggested by some others so it must the best way to go, will do. Don't worry, I'm going to tear down a monojet off my 77 250 i6 nova because I want to start out with something simpler. My dad also has really good books on quadrajets and monojets with great blow-up part by part diagrams. I'm looking forward to it just didn't want to mess it up on a more important car thats all

Ho-kay... I'm seeing:

Flarestat 4-way flasher (rare)
AM-FM radio (very rare)
Vacuum trunk release (rare)

What other neat stuff does this beast have?

MobileParts is a good guy with lots of original parts and a parts catalogue in his head - he's very old school, so you darn near have to catch him at a meet, but if you need particular stuff, he can throw it in the van for you before a meet if you tell him soon enough.
