Newbie - To Olds and this Site
Just picked up a 1961 Dynamic 88 Convertible last night. Got a smoking deal, if I am right, will have official appraisal and inspection completed next week. I have posted an album with a bunch of pictures. I don't think it is going to need a lot of work, but will know for sure by Wednesday. The seller also included some parts off a 1964 that he had purchased as spares. I will probably be selling the majority, once I check through it.
The car was built in NJ and sold to a laundry business, I have the original warranty booklet. Was next sold by a dealership in Lincoln, NE. The guy I bought it from was the 3rd owner and he purchased the car in LeMars, IA 20+ years go. It has 91,000 miles on it, and mostly original. Very clean straight car and made the 150 mile drive home last night at interstate speeds, with no problems.
I haven't driven a car older than 3 years for about the last 15, so it will be a re-learning of sorts getting used to the old technology.
I look forward to discussing options, improvements, etc. with you all.

I have to say, in the pic the car looks to be in pretty darn good shape. Oldsmobiles are too high class a car for blackwall tires, IMHO. Love the dog dish caps. Now, you need to find a set of beauty rings to set them off.
I can tell, as you have already experienced in piloting the car for 150 miles on the interstate, these 394 c.i. engines are made to be driven. You are going to have fun with this ride!

Welcome aboard,
Love the drop top and yes it needs white walls to set it off but 2.5 inch may be a little wide for a 60's era car MHO. In the early sixties they were migrating toward the slimmer style of white walls but what ever you do, wide or slim she will stand out in a crowd.... Lost in the fifties.... Tedd

Nice car- unusual to see one with matching paint and interior.
VIN: 612L12257 - 61= 1961 model year, 2 = Dynamic 88, L = Linden NJ assembly plant, remainder is sequential VIN.
Cowl:
OLDSMOBILE DIV. GENERAL MOTORS CO LANSING, MICHIGAN
02D = built 4th week (D) of February 1961 (02)
Style 61-3267= 1961 3200 series (D88) convertible (67)
Body BL 922= 922nd Olds B convertible body produced at Linden Fisher Body plant
Trim 325-6 Red Morocceen vinyl interior- seat bolsters should be darker red than the cushion inserts, door panel accents should be white. Floor covering- red carpet on tunnel with rubber inserts in footwell positions.
Acc K5 not sure but probably power top. There are a couple guys on AACA-Olds forums who will know for sure.
Paint L = Garnet Mist, C= convertible top color- I can't find a C reference for 61 but I'm guessing it may have been red as A was usually white and B black.
A 1961 Olds except a Starfire should have wide whitewalls. 1962 was the first year for narrow whites across the board though some of them were showing up in late 1961 production.
Chevrolet did the same thing with the Impala SS vs. regular 1961 passenger cars. I don't think the other GM Divisions adopted narrow whites until 1962. Cadillac was getting into multi-stripe whitewalls about that time.
Depends on what they are, 1964 spare parts may or may not work on a 61.

Thanks for all the info RocketRaider. You are probably right about the top color, I will need to find out for sure before winter, as I plan on having a new top installed while the car is tucked away from the weather. Thanks for the info on the white walls also, I love the way the wide ones look, so nice to know that I am staying in period.

Nice car Blake! Welcome to C.O. I see it's spring down there? You actually have green grass and leaves??? You lucky guy! I see your wife seems to like the car. BTW, ditch that Dukes of hazzard spare in the trunk...doesn't work with your car.
There is a lot of free info for your car on the website I'm flogging in my sig line. It's free and saves you tons of money finding and buying CSMs etc.

Thanks Alan. Yes, it is unseasonably warm here this year, last March 25th we had 3" of snow, this year 82 degrees out. Yes, the wife likes the ride, although a little upset that I would no put the top up on the way home tonight . LOL, on the Dukes of Hazzard tire, that will be gone very soon, I may not tell the wife what I have to drop on the extra white wall and rim for the trunk though.

Blake: Welcome to CO! Yes, you got a deal on the '61. Love the body style; if I ever get another one (highly doubtful, at this point) would so love to have a '61 bubbletop/HT. Classic beauty lines; expecially love the rear end. Looks like you don't have too much to do to make that a drop dead show stopper. I don't recall seeing a convertible at any of the Nats we've attended.
