The carb mount plenum on the RPM is raised a little higher than the standard Performer, is all I know. Gives a little more ram induction effect and raises the powerband just a little, same as using a carb spacer. Either will work fine for street use. You may get into hood clearance issues using an RPM on some engine/car combinations.

A good Quadrajet that is tuned right is an excellent choice. I also have an Edelbrock 650 on my 350 and it runs very well . I have not had great luck with Holley's staying in tune but a lot of others swear by them . I swear AT them.

Well, a quick trip to the Edelbrock website will tell you that the Performer is optimized for performance in the idle to 5500 RPM range, whereas the Performer RPM is optimized for the 1500-6500 RPM range. The difference is usually runner length and cross section. As noted, the RPM has a taller profile, more for a straighter, less restrictive runner than for "ram tuning", however. Make an honest assessment of how you plan to use the car and pick the manifold accordingly.
