Smile Newbie has a 442 shifter?

I have a shifter that has 442 on it. Figured a 442 forum is the place to find out if its an OEM or a Hurst aftermarket, or some other aftermarket. So I guess I'll post in the tech section with some pictures.

Thanks

Fred.

It's a factory Hurst shifters. The aftermarket shifters only have the "H" on the stick, and the stick bolts on. The factory Hurst shifters have the "442" numerals and a snap-in stick (to speed up assembly line installation).

Non 442 (cutlass) hurst shifters have an "H" on them with a banontte style factory shifter handle.

Good point. I ***-U-MEd that the O.P. was talking about a Hurst shifter, not a Muncie shifter. To be completely correct, prior to 1966, shifters used a flange-mount handle that was held on by two bolts. This is not the same as the "lap joint" bolt-on handles used on the aftermarket Hurst shifters, but it is an important distinction for correctness.
